September 3rd is Medicine Seller's Day, are you prepared to reveal your form, truth and reason?Or talk anything Mononoke, the lore, the future...
"Needs more research" is code for "we haven't thought that far ahead".
Wish someone also asked why he sometimes pets the little head under the chin.
If there ever is a series/movie with all 64, character designers will be the most miserable people ever.
>>281963877Aren't kami and the liek supposed to be a japan only thing?
>>281966116Yes, but one can say other countries have same creatures, just under different name, mononoke can be taken as some demon entity.Kind of doubt they would ever actually take it out of Japan though, they would have to change too much about them and lose the aesthetic.
>>281963503How does the box being some hammerspace matches with the part where he only had enough material to make one firework?
>>281966315He had more, but it was buried under his extensive porn collection.Joke aside, I think they are making some of the stuff up as they go. In Ayakashi, Kayo could run with the box on her back just fine, although it did lack the sword box, which seems to be the heaviest component. Running out of gunpowder was more dramatic, it makes you wonder what else will he come up with to save them, while hammerspace explains how he can take out thousands of scales to send around Ooku.
>>281963132I still don't quite get the difference between "truth" and "reason"
>>281966562Truth is the identity of the one whose powerful emotion created mononoke. Reason is why they had this emotion. For example, form is bakeneko, truth is Tamaki and her cat (possibly all the cats the older brother killed), reason is the abuse she endured and her death, the cat wanted to avenge her.
>>281966562One is why the Mononoke came into existence. The other is what it is trying to achieve and what triggered it into motion. All three aspects are closely related, since the form is also determined by the truth behind the Mononoke's formation, but are not the same. For example, a baby died of neglect (truth), then became a Mononoke represented by a japanese thing that is always eating (form), and it now started to take action because a family moved into its grounds and it is trying to ensure the parents will die leaving the kids alone (reason).
Would you?
>>281963132this is kino
>>281963132I don’t even know my own truth. But that last movie was pretty good. Better than the first one I’d say. Favorite moment was the head guard covering for him saying he didn’t noticed the pass was expired.
>>281970436Sakashita is a true bro, he's gonna get that special love potion from Britain for free.
>>281968419yes
>>281963503Where is this QA coming from?
>>281972659https://x.com/anime_mononokeThey are originally in japanese, lately they've started replying to those with english version.
>>281972953thank you, good anon
>>281974585You're welcome. Wish they'd share more about the organization of medicine sellers.
Old /a/ would've had a sticky for the movie announcement. New /a/ has a handful of threads that die after 50 posts.
>>281974770On the day it released on netflix it had a good thread with lots of activity, but otherwise it's really hard to get people in. That's kind of how it is with works where one doesn't have much to argue about.
I was wondering why Fuki's bedroom had underwater scene on the walls, then it dawned onto me that it matches hinezumi coming out like school of fish.
I'm literally just now hearing that the second movie was already released, what the fuck.
>>281978431Well, as they say, better late than never. Weekend is coming up, so you have plenty of time to catch up.
>>281963132Medicine sellers are cute
>>281964415It would be nice if they were to draw them all for a databook. Maybe a group picture.
>>281982575I kinda want a side story where there's a bunch of medicine sellers just fooling around in their home base while waiting for something to do
Slowpoke here, haven't watched the movies yet but the QA images reminded me of something I was wondering about. Some time back an anon who claimed to have the theatre booklet from when the movie was in Japanese cinemas said it described the Medicine Sellers as Inari foxes, or some kind of foxes anyway, and I didn't know how truthful that was since I've never seen anyone discuss it. Was it just another speculation or did they actually call them that?
>>281986253I remember anon claiming they were tenko kitsune (though if they serve Inari then they would be kiko, according to yokai.com). Unfortunately, I don't have the booklet, and I don't recall any other source confirming it, but everyone seems to roll with it being true.
One thing i still don't get about the ending of Hinezumi, if he slayed mononoke, why was there still hinezumi fire in the lamp and his paper got burned?
>>281978431I was also caught off guard by how quickly it came out after the first movie. I’ve grown so accustomed to delays and disappointments in general, the Mononoke films have been an oasis in the desert
>>281991667It's a trilogy where each movie continues onto the previous, so they kind of have to get it out while the memory and the hype is still fresh. I just hope they get a green light for further projects after Hebigami comes out next year.
>>281988300I'd honestly never guess Mugitani was just 22, she somehow gave the impression of being older.
>>281983432Well, since they seem to be doing everything from ayakashi sea to miserable housewives, I don't think it really leaves them with much free time, even if they don't have to sleep. But it would be nice to see how it all functions, the hierarchy and everything. Do they play pranks on each other? Do they publish their own magazine? Sit by the candlelight and tell scary stories about humans?
>>281988300>Asa: 17Younger than expected
>>281995615It's because she is so serious, it's more fitting for a woman that's already been working for some time, not a teenager fresh on the job.Though I wonder what kind of life she had if she had to make breakfast for her neighbors every day.
I wonder what role emperor's mother will play in the final movie? When I looked up kanji for her name, it was "water", "harmony", and "temple", which makes me think of the water goddess the Ooku worships. Her white hair has dark tips, which is kind of unnatural, the only other person with hair like that is medicine seller, whose hair has red tips like in a typical kitsune. Her son is an idiot, though, literally cares about nothing except to breed.
>>281966562How you are and why you are.
>>281996347>water deity, also a snake, tied to a womaNamija chads it is our time to shine.
>>281996688Considering Ooku is all about producing children, it could be Ohatsu, the pond serpent that lived among humans and granted wishes.https://yokai.com/ohatsu/
>>281996890>pond>like the water pool of the ookuYou could be onto something. What's the family name of the water dude?
>>281996937Water dude is Mizorogi Hokuto (溝呂木 北斗), the kanji for his family name are "sewer", "backbone", and "tree, wood", which doesn't sound very fancy.
>>281997008He is named after Ursa Major however. That's a pretty grand name.
>>281997029He does hold an important position, even if he is mighty suspicious about it.His daughters are Futsukazuki (二日月) and Mikazuki (三日月), The latter means crescent moon, but the only difference is in the number that their names start with (was there a number one?).
>>281997481The naming scheme definitely reminds me of how noble families would name their daughters. >was there a number oneThey're named after moon phases, the new moon, Shingetsu, is probably either not a woman's name, or a bad omen to call a child. Futsukazuki is the first sliver of the moon, Mikazuki the crescent. If they're called that it's probably because no other names fit ironically enough.
>>281968419who wouldn't?
>>281997601Shingetsu has been used as name for anime characters and anime attacks before, it's a name of a band, and from results it seems it can also be a family name, so I don't think it's so much a bad omen as that it might give the wrong impression, since in anime it's usually given to warriors.
>>281997965You're definitely correct, it seems to not be a very common name at all and mostly linked to males, less bad omen and more not for daughters of nobility. I floated the theory of bad omen because in a family that is so closely linked to the moon and the sky like the Mizorogi superstition could prevent them from naming a child after the new moon.
It's kind of funny how Kon, who is earth element, has shingi whose hair turns fiery red, while fire element Ri doesn't.
I wonder If we ever see other Medicine Seller, probably not.
>>281998429Well, never say never. Problem is that you only really need one to slay mononoke, unless the ones whose swords are not among the most powerful 8 can work in tandem to compensate.
How come none of the people ever point out medicine sellers have big, pointy ears?
>>281966562In Fire RatForm: Fire RatTruth: Lady Suzu was made to abort her childReason: She could forgive everything except herself
what would happen if 2 medicine sellers met?
>>281998897that would be a social faux pas
>>281999594I've seen people being very pleased that they made it so obvious this time around, in Karakasa it was more muddled with the whole drying out metaphor. I know it took me some time to really get it.
>>281999647They regularly meet at their headquarters called Juuyoku, where they probably discuss mononoke and rising prices of various goods.
>>281999658He was probably told worse things than that when invading people's homes. Can't always count on horny women and good-natured samurai to let you in.
>>281999647they'd fuck then go their separate ways
>>281999838wish I was medicine seller...
>>281998897Would you question the most obvious Kitsune ever? You know they have killed for minor conversational missteps before. Sure these ones are nice but the people don't know that.
>>282000446I'd probably have a dumb moment and pull on them just to see if they are an accessory that comes off.
>>282000323Me too
>>281963132The short girl in the 2nd movie is very cute and expressive.
>>282002739They overall had a much better supporting cast this time.
>>282002739The fire patrol cutegade
I'm probably the only one that misses when medicine seller would look a bit crazy while talking to his sword without a sound.
>>282005636What does he eat?
>>282005710According to director, absolutely nothing. Doesn't sleep either, so he'll be running around all the time.
>>282005636He's so cute!
>>281963132Woah, almost missed this thread.
>>282005636Adorable.
>>281988300Wonder if the third movie will continue to develop the current female cast like Asa, Botan and Fuki or if it'll focus on someone new
>>282013153I don't think they can develop any further, they had their big moments and had settled as the faces of new, better Ooku. The third movie should be more about emperor and his family, so it will probably focus on someone in that circle, with those three as support cast.
