I believe if you put together a list of things every anime does, you could write a great anime by creatively subverting them all.>well-trained soldiers with guns are a massive threat>will kill the protagonist (regardless of super powers) if they dont avoid them
well why won't you do it
>muh subversionFuck off normalfag.
>>281978199>you could write a great anime by creatively subverting them all>reality>it's suffering pornslop that you could watch game of thrones and sitcom for the same result, rick from rick n morty appears, looks at the screen and says "actually, everything sucks, amirite guys?"
>>281978199Realism is not subversionWe have subversions and satires, and they are the likes of OPM and Yakuza Househusband, which are awesome
That's literally what dragonball did and it worked great>Waoooowao that fist of the north star looking dude is sooo much weaker than this 10 year old bald midget woooooooow
>>281978199>MCs village gets attacked>He dies tooWAOW!
>>281979037lol noDBZ was not a subversion of anythingIt was a straight rip off of Kung-fu filmsToriyama confessed it himself that when they were brainstorming for an idea, it was his wife who told him that it's weird how he makes manga while watching Kung-fu filmsAnd that was the spark that ignited the powder keg
>>281978199Muh subversion would just make it as predictable as the usual tropey stuff, only on the opposite end of the spectrum.
>>281978199I prefer the way Goku tanks bullets like they're bb's.
Subversion isn't good in it of itself. The new Star Wars movies are proof
>>281978199Ajin does this with the anti-Ajin squad. People thought when they were introduced that they would just immediately die but it turns out they were really competent. They're on the MC's side though.
>>281978199that's a great way to discover why the authors are using those tropes in the first placeturns out many of them make telling stories easiertry it
>>281978199>MC is weak, completely talentless and witless, a coward and a huge asshole with negative charisma and a heart of coal that drives away all his allies then runs away from the final battle and lets the big bad kill all the good guys offscreen. Rather than end there as some kind of tragic but inevitable conclusion, the show just keeps going depicting the MC scavenging for trash and robbing children to live, until eventually dying of a bee sting 20 episodes later due to a previously unmentioned allergy.
>>281978199Chainsawman?
>>281988512people who think chenso is subversive have never read any of the classic devilmen manga
Whenever you choose another path, you have to make sure you know where you are going without it. Well-trained soldiers are a threat? How do you dispatch them? Where do you go after a certain point? What is their purpose in the story, and how do you get to that point? Is this a supernatural setting or is the protagonist also capable of using guns to kill their enemy in a similar fashion, turning this into a setting akin to a samurai duel or wild west shootout? How well-armed are the forces? What is preventing them from being on the MC’s level? These are fine ideas to toy around with, but much like a button on a dashboard or a line of code, even the smallest tweak could greatly ruin one’s setting. Realism is an expression of internal consistency, and if you have rules within an outlandish world that remain universal truths, it can be just as accepted as the real world. Everything has to have its purpose somewhere.

>>281985582The Force Awakens is a decade old btw.
>>281978199>well-trained soldiers with guns are a massive threat>will kill the protagonist (regardless of super powers) if they dont avoid themUnless they actually DO kill the protagonist, I don't see how this is a subversion.Even if they do, there are already several stories with a similar premise.
>>281978199>things every anime doesRealistically all this means is that your anime wouldn't be animated since that's the only thing EVERY anime does and even then you're up against shit like Gokushufudou or whatever studio Naz's got going on
>>281978255why dont u?
