I just found out the alternate version Exoskull Zero is being translated as well. Only two volumes left! I'm shocked at that and Seven Ninja of the Imperial Guard both getting translations after all this time. I saw one page of the latter with Harara(?) slicing a man's head off with his dick and knew I had to read it someday.>>282018500It was jarring going from Apocalypse Zero, to Demon Order Garan, to Shigurui, but by the end I realized he has a very consistent worldview and sense of morality in his works that don't neatly fit into any boxes or binaries. He just draws cool shit and depicts things as he sees them, then his characters will react to the world around them according to their beliefs. It makes for interesting stories.

There's also the author's text at the end of volume 1 where he says the series is about finding happiness and staying true to yourself even in dire situations.Never read this manga all the way through, but everytime I see it I just get intrigued by it.

I don't think I've ever really gotten what it was going for enough to judge it artistically. You can definitely see the soul of the guy that tore himself up to make Shigurui though.

Was morbidly fascinated by this years ago when b-movie site reviewed the OVA.Ended up picking up most of the tankoban while studying in Japan, but never got around to translate/reading it.It was so long ago, I wanted to translate "tactical evil" as "epic troll".
