Anon, you're not going to be watching subtitled anime forever are you? If you aren't a larper, and have a reasonable amount of time spent on anime, there's no way you don't have at least a few hundred vocab words memorized. I will not subject myself to subs forever. I hope this doesn't get modded. Take a season or two off of anime. It won't hurt. Learn some more vocab.
I haven't used subs for years. There's no reason not to have learned Japanese by now.
>>282022561The amount of effort it takes to learn Japanese far outweighs any benefits I could reap from that knowledge. I'm satisfied being English-only.>Take a season or two off of anime. It won't hurt. Learn some more vocab.I'm certain it takes more than a season or two to learn Japanese to the level that I'm able to watch anime unsubbed. I know this because every time someone divulges his experience learning Japanese, it sounds hellish.
>>282022561>Take a season or two off of anime. It won't hurt. Learn some more vocab.why would you do that? watching just works.the letters are another thing entirely, but words get in your head just like any other language.
If the anime doesn't use complex vocabulary, I'll turn subtitles off. I did this with Mysterious Girlfriend X recently and even listened to the drama CD. I understood more than I thought I would.Other times, I'll simply avoid looking at the subtitles if the characters aren't having an exactly deep conversation. It made me realize that a lot of the times, there's not much happening on screen anyway.
>>282022561>Anon, you're not going to be watching subtitled anime forever are you?No, I also watch dubs.
>>282022561I haven't watched subbed anime since 2014.
>>282022874that's even worse
>>282022561>I hope this doesn't get moddedI hope it does, kys
>memorized all the kana and a few kanji words>completed 1 of 5 course workbooks with confidence>took a break to prioritize other things for a while>get back to studying nihongo>cannot comprehend grammar in second half of book 2>it's over
>>282022561>Anon, you're not going to be watching subtitled anime forever are you?Sure am.>If you aren't a larper, and have a reasonable amount of time spent on anime, there's no way you don't have at least a few hundred vocab words memorized.I don't see what LARPing has to do with that. But I don't even hear the Japanese when I watch with subtitles, my internal monologue is in English from reading the subs. They may as well be speaking Klingon.>I will not subject myself to subs forever.Okay? It's not a mark of shame, no one's competing for anything.>I hope this doesn't get modded. What?>Take a season or two off of anime.No.>It won't hurt. Learn some more vocab.I don't feel like it. >>282022609>There's no reason not to have learned Japanese by now. What if my brain just doesn't learn that way?
>>282027087>What if my brain just doesn't learn that way?Do you have a certificate saying you are mentally disabled?
>>282022874 Based
>>282022561when i was studying japanese i had to stop to focus on other stuff at the time (i'm unemployed, still am though), and right now i still have to focus on other stuff at the moment; so i don't have the leisure to study japanese at the moment. :P
>>282027575No, but I have a certificate saying you're a faggot.
>>282031744Well then your brain does learn that way, you just won't let it.
>>282031778Wrong. I don't need a certificate to know how my brain works and how I learn, and you're retarded if you think everyone on Earth learns the same way. I can't learn through auditory osmosis, it won't work. You could make me watch anime for 50 years straight and I won't learn a thing. I have to study it. Only that way will I recognize familiar phases.
>>282027087>What if my brain just doesn't learn that way?watching anime isn't studying
>>282022561I'm a larper. Problems?
>start learning what words and phrases mean>you now realize have god awful a lot of subs are
I learned some vocab recently. I don't know if this is the proper spelling but whatever.Dostedt - WhatNani - WhySugoi - AwesomeKawaii - CuteOhaio Gozaimas - Thank you>Watching Akagi>50 year old Yakuza underling says "sugoi">Immediately imagine him as a moe girl
>>282032039>You could make me watch anime for 50 years straight and I won't learn a thinghave you tried actually focusing on the material?
>>282022561>there's no way you don't have at least a few hundred vocab words memorizedI'll take this bait,The subtitles in anime are not what the voice actor is actually saying, just one word can be translated differently depending on what the translator has to communicate to the audience.
I saw an untranslated title the other day, and it made sense to me just from my years of watching anime and absorbing what few words I do knowI'm a little proud of that.
>>282033033you listen to the code to crack it, not to the transcript.it only takes knowing what a sentence looks like in nip, and replaying it a few times. if chars repeat just one word out of the sentence that accelerates it even more.are normalfags that clueless
>>282033115>are normalfags that cluelessyawn out loud
i listened to some asobi asobase.it gets pretty hard when they start mumbling fast.but normal anime japanese is another matter, and easier.
