Be honest here, how badly did Anime getting as popular as it did today break your brain? I think part of the reason it did, is because I feel like I didn't watch enough during the old days, due to my laptop breaking in high school, and my mental illness post high school, but I was here for Haruhi and some other shows in 2006.

even though i'm a post covid anime watcher, i hope anime shouldn't have become as popular as how it is today. because of this popularity, there's too much censorship even in ecchi stuff. the last good fan service anime we got was htod

Anime been hugely popular since the 80s in my country.
>>
>>282025634
dubbed "anime" im sure
>>
>>282025587
Censorship has been an issue since the 1999.
>>
No because plenty of people around me watched stuff on Toonami and it's natural these people would grow up to also keep watching anime even moreso with how shit western animation is.
Literally back then you had /a/ bitching about entry-level shows being popular while actually saying how their mid romcoms were peak

yeah these post covid anime watchers don't even know we had nipples in wsj stuff like in HnK lol. They just listen to their culture warrior youtuber of choice and don't even watch anime.

Yes that is usually how normalfags expand through ease of access since most literal normalfags aren't even part of the dub/sub "debate".

on the one hand. I'm a neet. on the other. I did inherit 500k usd of stuff. I'm rich enough to not really have to work, but not rich enough that I can rebuy my 20s or have a real sense of purpose. ngl, I think I need a lot more money than this to be happy
>>
I literally don't care if other ppl watch anime

Since you're so kindly asking for a blogpost:
I always watched anime, even before I started downloading it in 2004, since we had a great tv channel here in south america called locomotion, that had stuff like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop and also stuff like Excel Saga, Aika, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Makai Tensho and a bunch of other obscure and more otaku-focused tv anime and OVA. Early 00s digital animation felt like a downgrade from late 90s shows early on, but IMHO they "figured it out" by the time Haruhi rolled out. By 2010 most studios felt like they had reached, with digital animation, where they left off in 99, in terms of familiarity with the medium and working the kinks out. By 2010 it also felt like they nailed the formula that would make it to today in terms of how to conduct the narrative (though I can't describe what it is, anime just feels the same since then, like how a lot of 90s anime felt the same as each other). I had already made my peace with it, battle harems had come to stay, isekai a bit later, but expected it to take more time for anime to become as mainstream as post 2020.
Answering your question, I don't really mind it becoming popular. Sure, I hate a lot of the western influence and what it does to anime, but I think that would be the case regardelss of popularity, the overbearing politicians involved now know as much about it as they would if it was still obscure. I do have to listen to more crap since a lot of newer fans like to be vocal about what they don't know, but I'm glad to educate them in excruciating detail until they either understand my POV or regret ever challenging it. It's also more of an online thing for anyone older than 18, as people IRL tend to pretend they don't like it to impress each other, and kids are just usually impressed I still watch anime despite having a wife and kid.
So no, it did not break me OP, just take a break and find a new show to discuss, this season has unexpectedly had many nice ones.

my dude, if you think anime being popular "broke your brain", you have things to be taken care of with more priority than anime,
Anime has been rising in propularity, for decades, slowly yes, but at a steady pace. now that the companies killed their golden geese (mahvel, dc, capeshit) they have set their anime in their crosshairs, not because of aesthetics or themes, its because they see dem dollah dollah signs on it.
So, many of us think that this will temporary, like 5 years to a decade, until they fucked up something and they jump to the next fad / flavor of the month.
A good thing for you, is that there is a shitton of old anime to watch and enjoy. be well, and stop caring for the normies-
>>
Anime getting more popular doesnt bother me at all. It just depends on the normie how you handle the interactions. There are good normies and bad normies and very bad normies
>>
>>282025768
What are you trying to say? The nudity in children anime like Hnk was not for fan service purposes.
Gracious ecchi anime has always been the exception rather than the norm. And we still get those exceptions. Sono Bisque no Doll, Goblin Slayer, Jobless Reincarnation

found the normalfag

I'm just annoyed because the local con became a crowd navigation simulator so I don't go anymore, it used to be fun and comfy.
Don't really care about anime's popularity otherwise
>>
>>282025548
Anime becoming mainstream led inevitably to their massive enshittification.
THAT breaks my brain

It would be easier. Reason why I started to watch anime is to be more social. I knew that a lot of girls like it, so it was a nice way to meet them. And they were kind of girls I like, mostly. I did try different things too but only anime was actually interesting.
