>>282102881I started at 25, and I think trumpet was a good choice. You can get refurb student for like 70 to 80 bucks or even better a slightly munted 1960s/70s one for the same price or cheaper. You'll probably need lessons for a couple months just to get the mouth piece shape down but once you have that it's basically weight lifting your mouth muscles. You'll lean c to c in about a year which means you can play a lot of things outside of certain bugle calls that require the higher open notes. I could play Hurt by NiN and Creep by Radio head with my fiancee on the piano within a year or so of playing.It's frustrating and first but I found it super fun and much more akin to lifting than anything. Plus with a practice mute, you get good lung exercise and play anywhere. I'm not a music nut either. I played cello as child before my teacher died and ocarina because I saw a cute Irish lash go hard on one. So it's surprisingly accessible and they just become an extension of your voice so quickly. Plus because they are a little high maintenence, you get a true bond with your instruments. Polishing my cornet properly and finally soldering a new watercap on almost bought me to tears. It was so beautiful and the first toot was like spring wind on the lungs.
