Why does anime just look better on CRT?
delusion
Old anime does, something about it just feels right.

muvluv is cuckshit garbage

CRTs are best with low resolution content like video games before 2005 and standard definition anime. They're kind of a limited resource now since no one makes them anymore and repairing one is going to be a do it yourself project since TV repair shops don't service them anymore.
I haven't had a CRT in nearly 20 years. I built a toaster in 2015 or so, could I hook one up to that? How much do they even cost now?
old good new bad

>>282035730Does it?
>>282037755Do TV repair shops even exist anymore? Modern TVs are just a panel, a controller board, and a PSU. The panel is the most likely to break, and replacing it probably costs the same as buying a new TV, controller boards are pretty solid, and nowadays PSUs are mostly external, so you just buy a new power brick if the included one goes bad

>>282036139This.
>>282043149Geek Squad would probably try for you, but most repair is centered on computing stuff now (phone, tablet, laptop, desktop).
>>282035500CRTs just look better. Yes they're bigger and heavier but when it cames to their actual purpose they do it better. And the difference in quality is even more stark irl, photos doesn't do it justice.
>>282045902Valid comparison in the 2000s; cherry picked now.The color production on OLEDs and different LCD panels can match the blacks of CRTs.The only upside to CRTs is the 0ms input delay. But this is a board about anime, not vidya.

>>282035500When are we going to get to the point where we say "Anime looks better on Flatscreen TV's from the 00's"?
>>282035500It's less to do with anime and more to do with the color quality of a CRT. Just recently are we starting to get displays that can compete with CRT color richness.
>>282035869Only if it's on an old TV and the video is low res, those TVs do a lot of favors for low quality video because that's what they were basically made for and the TVs themselves can't really display much detail. CRT computer monitors are far higher res and they will accurately display all the artifacts and other crap in low res video, the player still needs to do a lot of upscaling because the monitor's res is a lot higher than ~480i too so overall you won't really get any benefit from watching old stuff on PC monitors. Just on old TVs.
