In Brotherhood, on the other hand, it's all the fault of an evil pokemon and Ed's father is a Gary Stu. Like all the other characters become more flat as for a child audience who just want to see fights with lights and explosions, but without questioning the beliefs of the characters. While in FMA 2003 Dante questions Ed's beliefs, and the main characters don't have a happy ending with everyone happy, but a more realistic ending where there are losses and negative consequences to their past actions.

Seiji Mizushima tried to turn it into a OVA miniseries, and the higher ups only gave him the proposal to make a movie. He and Shou Aikawa planned the movie to be about three hours long because of everything they had already planned, but the higher ups told them both to go fuck themselves again, and the end result is what we got, with a lot of crazy content being cut.
