Anime is the bottom of the media barrel

Back in the day, anime was genuinely cool because animators had creative freedom. It was the fan service and wild direction that made it unforgettable.

But now? Just a copy-paste of the source material + censorship

Reading manga is a hundred times better than watching recent anime

Don't pretend modern manga isn't slop as well

This opinion isn't unheard of within the anime industry itself.
That modern anime is a lot of really talented key animators and no talented directors because "episode director" in current adaptations has no freedom to do anything but panel for panel type adaptation.
You can only get good at what you practice. Anime has practiced really rote adaptation for over 15 years and it's starting to effect the wider talent pool. Meanwhile key animators are still afforded some freedom but with no strong director tying them together, so you get basically sakuga diatribes instead of holistic episodes. Again, because it's been industry convention for long enough it's starting to get ingrained into people.

There are hundreds of classic anime you haven't watched yet.
