Why did Dragon Ball Super succeed as a sequel while Boruto failed, even though both released roughly at the same time?
Because it was still about Goku and Vegeta, not businessman Gohan or the new generation of boring children
>>282070614Boruto forgot that what made Naruto popular was part 1 naruto being insanely tense with a focus on shit going wrong all the time. Pick any Boruto episode and 99% of the soundtrack is upbeat with the genins fending off whatever thugs or gods theyr'e up against with minor scrapes and bruises. All they had to do was analyze the first two major arcs of its predecessor as a roadmap but they put on the kiddie gloves instead and failed to retain 30+ year olds who liked the gritty ninjas from when they were 10.
>>282070614boruto is a next generation type deal with a new main cast while dbs has the benefit of keeping the old cast and coasting off their popularity. fans are always raring to see naruto and goku have another fight but they dont want to see one of their children replace them and make them look bad or obsolete
Envision GT but instead of Goku being the only capable fighter, it's the Goku Jr you got from the epilogue stuff, and he just keeps crying and yelling until he suddenly powers up.

Super still featured the characters we know and love, even if they were flanderized.Nobody cares Naruto and co.'s kids or aliens
