What the fuck was the plot of this? Stopped really paying attention halfway through, kept watching, and kinda like the vibes, but I'm lost.

It's 2000's Sunrise. Tonal whiplash is the norm.

>oh cool it's offbrand digimon with magic powers and shit
>syke, death game time bitches
Was just thinking about this and Otome today. Both great shows, both astoundingly awful endings.

I don't know this anime but from your description, I think I have the same reaction towards webmrel.
Frankly, I've just started watching it for this specific scene.

Surprised Sunrise hasn't tried to do a revival or remake of this franchise. Was Otome really that bad?

Can you explain Mai's plot to me, because I'm lost on which all organizations are doing what

Stop reading the thread so you don't form an impression based off someone else's opinion, and go watch Mai-Hime (make sure you watch the extras too). Don't even read the rest of mai post.

(spoiler'd for the sake of -Hime newfags)
I feel like the story kinda suffered as a result of them pulling punches. I think only one or two people died (and stayed died) in each respective series.

I was under the assumption that Mai-Hime would have a Mirai Nikki-type ending, and the new world resulting from it would be the world of My-Otome. But no, they just reused the characters and personalities, which was kinda weird.

I thought that was really cool actually. By keeping the cast, their personalities, and relationships intact it allowed further characterization of them in a way that changes depending on which one you watched first and still applies retroactively to what you already watched.

I feel like they kinda just used My-Otome as an excuse to make use of the character design for not-Nina in Mai-Hime.

Except the main ensemble's relationships and personalities are different. Supporting characters are more or less the same. Mashiro, Sergey and Reit--I mean Rad--are ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Correction, *20,006

At least by then we'll have nanotechnology and then we can all be Otomes.
