It’s always struck me as interesting how the big three fanbases react so differently to criticism.Naruto fans will openly roast Kishimoto: his inability to write female characters, sidelining most of the cast, aliens falling out of the sky in the final arc, Hashirama cells as a literal cheat code for everything, Uchiha meat riding, wasted potential, the list goes on.Bleach fans are brutally honest about Kubo: the white backgrounds, arcs that feel like copy-paste, Ichigo being one of the blandest protagonists out there, romance that felt like an afterthought, endless dangling plot threads, fights that looked cool but often had zero weight, and a dragged-out finale.Dragon Ball fans clown on Toriyama constantly: garbage powerscaling, retcons stacked on retcons, characters turned into parodies of themselves, and every new villain basically looking like a recolor or a slightly tweaked version of the last. All of those fandoms will admit their series are flawed, even deeply flawed, but still love them for what they are.But for some reason, One Piece’s fanbase feels allergic to criticism. Any attempt to point out pacing issues, bloated arcs, shallow side characters, or repetitive story beats gets met with defensiveness. And if you ask the simple question of why One Piece isn’t as big in the West, a chunk of the fanbase will deadass say, “It’s just too complex for Western audiences to understand.” Like… really? That’s the excuse? It’s not that One Piece is a bad manga, it's not that at all. It’s just that its fandom treats it like it's written by Shakespeare.
It’s just too complex for Western audiences
>>282071589>One Piece fans actually like One Piece and aren't just fans of the fandomshocking
>>282071589>Bleach fans are brutally honest about KuboYou haven't seen the way Bleachfags act after the TYWB arc anime, they became insufferable and think Bleach is high literature
>>282071589One Piece fan here, read all the manga and watched the anime. Its not the masterpiece the fandom makes it out to be, but the fact that the story hasnt completely shit itself after this long is the real kicker. It def has bad parts:>Toei pacing is awful, but the manga is fine-ish. some arcs definitly waxed on. >Luffy being le chosen one was kinda cliche>Crew gets seriously sidelined due to general character bloat>flanderization of characters is awful ever since time skip
>>282071808Nubleach and left overs who was stupid enough to stick with the final arc. The original bleach fans are long gone.
>>282071589>Naruto fans will openly roast Kishimoto: his inability to write female characters, sidelining most of the cast, aliens falling out of the sky in the final arc, Hashirama cells as a literal cheat code for everything, Uchiha meat riding, wasted potential, the list goes on.As someone who spends a lot of time criticizing Naruto, this is definitely not true. They might admit to an individual flaw but then they'll be like 'naw naruto is goated 10/10'.
I figure it’s nice to feel that the story has progression and intent, and Oda is obsessed with every single character he’s made. Shit like naming the Davy Back games after a famed outlaw and his son getting most of the antagonists of the series through it shows something. It’s nice to feel like the story is being told as intended and not adhering to sudden changes from the editors or cramming in characters that are high on the popularity polls. Could it shit the bed in the end? It’s not impossible. But for now people just want to follow the author telling the story he’s spent so long writing.
>>282071589>why One Piece isn’t as big in the West,What year do you think it is?
>>282071589>But for some reason, One Piece’s fanbase feels allergic to criticismYou're delusional. Aside from children and retarded YouTubers, the general consensus on One Piece is it has ranged from boring to slop ever since the timeskip
>>282071589Nostalgia
>>282071589What did you except from a fandom that calls the author "sensei"? Wan Piss has rhe most retarded shallow characters out of any Shonen but goycattle think they're ""peak"" because they have le sad backstory were they got bullied as a child or whatever, like every single fucking character NEED to have a shitty life as a kid or else they won't be considered "deep".That and how forced every single "emotional " moment in the plot is, like children's story the faggot author tries so hard to make you feel bad about someone by making the antagonist comically evil so you gotta hate them now too I guess lmao I'm such a sensei
>>282072526I tried watching One piece but I noticed immediately how manipulative the storytelling is. Sob story fatigue and Luff is fucking retarded. How can anyone over the age of 13 enjoy this childish shit.
>>282072806It's literally aimed at boys aged 12-18, that's what shonen means
>>282071812one piece mega fan here and theres much morethere are literally (as in athe definition of the word) tiwce as many panels now per chapter compared to water 7 and after.oda had cataract surgery and relegated more to assistants, it was clear before that break but REALLY REALLY obvious after.
>>282071589Ignoring shills, Bleachfags are by far the most critical of their own series. They don't stick with the story if the writing gets too bad, just look at the manga sales. 80% already dropped the latest anime after remembering how shit this arc is. Cour 3 was a massive flop compared to cour 1 and I'll only get worse from there unless that dogshit is rewritten.
>>282071589It is the better of the 3 but i think it's because one piece fans have more hope for the manga and the author, but yeah usually the criticism isn't where it should be from what i've seen if you started criticising one piece after wano you're just a bandwagoner it had issues before that.
Several confounding issues>if you get your opinions from reddit you're terminally retarded>the generals here are all inhabited by schizophrenic retards and any serious attempt at discussion is impossible>a large number of posts (mostly by that same group of schizophrenic retards) are made with the express intent of baiting those retards and anyone unfortunate enough to try and engage them in earnest, to the point that anyone actually trying to have a proper discussion is immediately viewed as a bad actorBasically this site, and reddit, are horrible platforms for any sincere discussion. Reddit has too much autistic groupthink moderation and we need to start dispatching hit squads to the houses of the retards inhabiting this hole.>open any one piece thread (except, thankfully, the daily thread)>the first 50 posts are the same ritualposts and autistic ai image spam as the previous 50 threads, and the other three threads on the page, dumb shit like "best pussy in verse" spammed 50+ times per thread with random aislop images>every other post is rehashed bait from the previous threads>there are several schizo meltdowns ongoing at once>there is maybe one sincere post in the whole thread if you are luckystrap me to a missile and fire me at japan
>>282074958>rewrittenIn what direction
>>282071589Reminder that the "Big 3" is just a western concept. It's not a thing in Japan.
>>282071589None of that is true about Bleach btw.
