I feel like L's death was completely unnecessary and that Near was just a lazy copy and paste so I think I'd rather have either L live or have a character take his place who's still smart but not an exact copy of him but other than that, I didn't mind light dying
My changes wouldn't make the second part good, but it'd be more interesting if Near didn't exist altogether. If Mello alone was the successor.
That would be interesting, but how would you end it, or what would you do about the story?
i dont think there was anything inherently wrong with L's death. most people have a problem with what comes after. the show is a psychological thriller, the fact that people are disappointed that they got surprised at a death is like people reading romcoms and surprised there is romance in it.i think the ending with the warehouse and near is iconic and i wouldnt change that, and i dont even necessarily have a problem with near, but he does sort of feel like a copy and paste L. he should have been more distinct, and mello and near should have been foreshadowed earlier or been incorporated so it didnt feel like it came out of literal nowhere
>>282090499I don't care about your feelings enough to read all that
I also don't have a problem with L's death but I do have a problem with the fact that Near felt like a copy, so I do agree with you there when it comes to Near needing to be more distinct, and I also agree with the ending I'm not too sure what else I would've changed desu
>>282090738>2 lines of textIt's over for zoomers
>>282090738If you don't care enough, then why did you bother commenting on the thread?
I agree. Light's death was pathetic.
>>282090738>willfully, proudly admitting that you can't readWhy aren't you embarrassed to admit something like this?
>>282090499I think L's death was necessary to move the story along, but I agree, Near was too much of L 2.0. Frankly, I would have rather seen the squad L had assembled rising to the challenge and putting the pieces together about Light's identity as Kira. The story can progress pretty much the same but with more of a cooperative grouping of intellect than a second wunderkind doing all the thinking for the group. And, for all he was shat on, Matsuda would be the one to unmask Light in the end.Light's death at Ryuk's hand was the perfect end. I liked his death in the manga so much more than the anime. Him coming to terms with his mortality and breaking down crying like a little bitch was a cathartic juxtaposition to the confident psychopath he portrayed himself as the whole story.
>>282090941I mean, as a Light fan I think he had to go his ego was too inflated I wish he wasn't such an egotistical idiot, and maybe he would've been able to achieve his dream but then again, I didn't expect that ending at all.
>>282090499I would have done ended it in the same way as the JP movies did: L writes his own name in the death note so he doesn't get killed by Rem, and then he exposes Light in front of his dad and everyone else.
>>282090989I haven't read the manga yet, should I read it? Is it much different, I love your idea it actually would be interesting to see a group try to piece together who Kira is.
>>282091027Never heard of the JP movies, I am interested though can you give me the name of them so I can check them out because that sounds so cool.
>>282091065The manga and anime were largely the same, save that ending. There were some anime-original scenes, but nothing major. At least that I recall. It's been nearly 20 years since I read the manga (with /a/, back when Light's name was transliterated as "Raito") and 15 since I watched the anime.
>>282091112I have heard the ending is slightly different I still might consider reading the manga just for the sake of reading it that is actually cool to meet an OG fan of Death note though.
I'll make the ending longer and actually show the consequences of kira's actions. The good and the bad.A problem i have is that they threw that "70 % of crime got down worldwide" without actually showing it.Another reason is that i find unbelievable that there wasn't any kira revivals even after actual kira was dead.
>>282091105Death Note (2006) and Death Note 2: The Last Name are the main story. There is a third movie that's mostly not related to the Light vs L conflict. My favorite part of the movies is how it solved the Naomi plot. Very creative use of the original Death Note rules.
>>282091198Yeah, it would be interesting to see the consequences of kira's actions, do you suspect that they were going to eventually make some sort of death note spinoff?
>>282091228I hate how ugly they made Light ;_;
>>282091228Oh, I've seen the poster once I'll definitely check it out, thank you very much for telling me about this!
I like how it's implied, and then never really explained, that Misa Misa has hundreds if not thousands of years to live
>>282091274I mean, what would you have preferred, a white guy as Light?
>>282091274I think he looks fine most of the time. >>282091310You're welcome, anon! You can find it on Nyaa.
>>282091342I'm a bit lost on this since it has been a while since I've watched death note, can you explain?
>>282091342I also dislike how they did misa's ending. It's implied she killed herself after light and mikami passed away but we didn't even get 1 line from her before that.
>>282090499I think the common denominator is that very few people didn't like Near being/acting/looking like L 2.0, to the point even fuckin Matt was far more popular/interesting if you changed Near's quirks oraking him.snother type of eccentric or give him a different personality, people wouldn't have such negative reaction to the second half of the story
>>282091386Honestly I don't remember either and probably someone else here can explain it better than me, but isn't there a rule that if a shinigami kills to save a person they immediately die and all their life expectancy gets transferred to that said person? Misa Misa ends up with all Rem life, right?
>>282091427Ah, I see it was more implied rather than shown?
>>282091427Misa only suffers from the very start. Underrated character. The beloved L literally tortures Misa and never gets shit. Poor Misa ;_;
>>282091469I'm not too sure honestly, I forgot the exact rules of the Death note.
>>282091517Misa is a menhera. Everyone knows instinctively to not sympathize with her and not want to stick it inside her.
>>282091469>if a shinigami kills to save a person they immediately dieThis is true.>all their life expectancy gets transferred to that said personI don't remember this being ever mentioned.
>>282091582Am I going crazy? It's over
>>282091517I did hate her the first time for being annoying but after watching a second time I thought she wasn't that bad, I'm pretty impartial to her though
>>282091678Probably misremembered it and got it mixed up with some other form of media it happens a lot more than you'd expect, I'm sure you're not a crazy person though.
Problem with Near (and Mello but hes so irrelevant lol) is it's so arbitrarily annoying.>Uhhh Light didn't win because technicaaallly there's this random kid that was never mentioned beforeThat's how it feels like.
>>282091784Yeah, the mangaka felt like he didn't know what he was doing at some points, that's why it felt kind of rushed in some points.
What if Jump didn't let the series end with Light winning at volume 6
>>282091469>>282091582Rem says that when a Shinigami kills to save a human the human gains the Shinigami's remaining life span, however the manga and How to Read both just say the humans life span is extended. As for Misa's life span: She might not have gotten that much. Gellus spent all his time gooning to Misa and his bio states he hates writing, and Rem has a relatively low kill count compared to the other Shinigami. There's also the fact that the DN can influence your life span even if your name isn't directly written in it, so her and Light's constant usage of it probably shortened their lives greatly.
>>282092675>Rem says that when a Shinigami kills to save a human the human gains the Shinigami's remaining life spanDoes she really say that? The human's lifespan increasing makes sense if their killer is killed before killing them.
>>282090499Made it follow the manga more closely. A lot of Near and Mello's dialogue and thought process is just chopped out to make it look like what they do is magic when there's actual deductive reasoning happening. It's why I think most people don't like Near and Mello, they weren't given a correct adaptation
As someone who only finished the manga recently, it has an interesting case where the latter half and arcs get very exhausting, but the actual ending I enjoyed quite a bit. I would say cutting out some of the fat and making Near less like L except with different types of toys. It could have ended sooner and feel a bit stronger I think. Light’s fake GF and Mikami were a bit much I think.
>>282090499So was there really an afterlife or not? I remember theories that the No Heaven Nor Hell thing actually caused Light to become a Shinigami
>>282094553It was left out of the anime, but as Light's dying in the manga, he asks Ryuuk to clarify something: "It says the person who uses the death note won't go to either heaven nor hell... because they don't exist, right?" and Ryuuk goes "haha, yeah. I just thought it was funny to phrase it like that"
