Almost nothing interesting is being actually shown and we are being infodumped through captions. There has been very few memorable panels besides the Rocks reveal, and the whole "everyone is in love with Shakky" meme felt extremely forced and could have been narrated in a better way - e.g. by having character grow some actual affection and friendship towards her, which would have required longer than simply drawing their eyes in heart shape. The problem is not the lack of edgyness, but the fact that Oda is narrating important stuff he foreshadowed for years in a very cheap manner. Compare with Kuma's flashback and you'll see this clearly.
