Bound to happen when the endgame, the yonkou, are all a trillion times less interesting than even the most boring shichibukai. Almost comical how hard Doffy, Croc, Moria, Kuma, Mihawk, Jinbei utterly mog the "endgame".
The unfortunate thing about a long running series like this is that it's not future proof and will lock out any readers who seemed interested because it's just too long. Over 100 volumes is just way too long unless you have already been invested. With the endgame being as weak as it is One Piece is going to end up going down in flames unless it REALLY sticks the landing for the ending.
