>>282209330It's a perfect match, the show is about a new civilization led by teenagers so it's only natural that it'd be horny. Ancient Greek civilization and the dark age Christendom that was a 1/100th copy of it both deemed Eros to be the forward momentum in the universe, the impetus behind all action, the initiation of creation, and the energy needed for magic to function. Using mixtures of drugs including scopolamine, there were entire branches of magic/science dedicated to inducing horniness in order to change a person's mind. The most famous example of this is Jason's use of a charm of Aphrodite to make Medea fall in love with him through invoking Eros. A charm of Aphrodite is not a little mantra you say or a checklist of superstitions to perform or an ad hoc religious explanation for coincidence. Iason's name itself comes as the title "drug man" from his centaur mentor in Thessaly (that place should ding a red flag for "magic" if you know anything). Another form of magic instead revolved around using images to invoke those forces that can control people, the basis for what is referred to as idolatry. Granted, it also involved a lot of drug use to really make the statues, costumed characters, engraved tablets, etc. impress themselves on your mind. Dr. Ioan Culianu pointed out in his magnum opus "Eros and Magic in the Renaissance" that the image-invocation tradition passing from prehistory into christendom saw erotic energy as the key component of successful image magic with the self-imposed imagery of the magician themself having the highest requirement for erotic drive to function. Culianu compares the theory and how Renaissance magicians viewed it as precursors to mass propaganda, but the truth is that mass propaganda is the basis of civilization itself and was discovered deep in prehistory, and the theoretical construct of images that have power because of the erotic drive of the observer makes me think of moe.

>>282211953>he show is about a new civilization led by teenagers so it's only natural that it'd be horny.expect the characters themselves aren't for the most part, just the designs
>>282212807That's because of the limitations of a mainstream publication within a highly conservative society. The subject is scrubbed from the foreground and relegated to the aesthetic layer because in actuality this premise of a society of youths free from any institutions would result in constant mating. Even still, that erotic power is inscribed in the character designs. Dr Stone should be a biology and sex education show that depicts all sorts of bodies nude, in detail, including functioning. With its vast cast of characters it could clearly present sex positive, healthy relationships as well as additional scientific information on pregnancy, midwifery, and infant care. If the hundred stories are supposed to keep civilization on a thread, some of them must be dirty stories instructing humans on the fertility cultism and medical knowledge that's a stepping stone to complex society.
>>282211953this is fascinating. is eros and magic in the renaissance a good place to start for someone wanting to learn more?
>>282213567Yes, it's a great place to start because it touches on the stream of prehistoric scientific/religious/magical traditions that flow into christendom so it really covers some of the real history. Christian magic and alchemy are just degenerate versions of the Greek stuff, that's where the entire four humors concept comes from. Except Culianu introduces the fifth humor, a sort of spiritual lymph fluid that allows the soul to comprehend the earthly by transmitting images. You also project this stuff out of your eyes to touch everything you see. Alongside it I'd also recommend "The Apples of Apollo" by Carl Ruck et al. which traces the drug science traditions in Greek culture. As spoilers to entice: golden apples are actually ripe amanita muscaria; vases showing Perseus hunting Medusa depict him with a harvesting knife and herb bag as well as one example where Perseus' shield is used to create the image of a mushroom; "Jesus" is actually a Greek title from the same root as Jason so it really indicates someone who uses healing drugs, like the Greek goddess Iaso/Ieso.
