The second season of Ranma 1/2's Demake by MAPPA comes out next month, it is going to be only 12 episodes long like the first one, they're skipping some chapters like the Tea Ceremony one and Mousse's VA is being recasted
Thoughts?
IMO at this point it feels like this series might only be 48 or so episodes long like the Urusei Yatsura remake so they might need to speedrun the manga by cherrypicking what to adapt (on top of heavily censoring the last arc) if they wanna get to to the end within those episodes
>>
Mappa? more like Brappa
>>
12 episodes a year for this is crazy. It's not even that well animated, and it's not like Ranma has much in terms of crazy direction to worry about.

How does this compare to the UY remake they did? That one felt like it lost some of the bite of the original version, which might have been down to a short leash on Rumiko's part as opposed to the OG's creative anarchy. I predicted they would get around to Ranma 1/2 as soon as Urusei Yatsura was announced, and now I assume Inuyasha is inevitable at some point.

They censored the nudity, added 2 anime original characters (a reporter and a cameraman) that explain all of the Ranma's fights, censored the word China, changed Ranma's dream so his female version won't be naked on it, Ranma doesn't seem to care about his curse all that much, added lots of dumb filters like the UY remake and so on

A possibility I've considered but really hope it doesn't.

Mousse/Cologne=3-5 eps
Happosai=2-3 eps
Ukyo=3-4

i hope its like this. Or maybe the mousse thing wraps up in 3.

I just want more eps for Ukyo.

But seriously, Ranma needs to train a new gen of femboy enthusiasts. Astolfo cant do it all himself.
>>
>>282233101
It's not like that, since we see footage from the Delivery girl race, the Romeo and Juliet arc and the Bakusai Tenketsu arc in the trailer. There's a shit ton of ground they have to cover.
>>
>>282218877
>IMO at this point it feels like this series might only be 48 or so episodes long like the Urusei Yatsura remake so they might need to speedrun the manga by cherrypicking what to adapt (on top of heavily censoring the last arc) if they wanna get to to the end within those episodes
The anime is adapting 4 volumes per cour. This next cour is clearly merging a few things, but based on trailers it will barely be outside that four volume limit, and it's mostly to construct a more focused narrative (Shampoo & Moose being the 'main characters' of the season).

I doubt it'll be 48 episodes based on an unrelated project operating with a completely different modus operandi. I imagine it will just be a several year long project wherein one cour is produced a year.
>inb4 "that's too long!"
MAPPA are the same company that dragged out "The Final Season" of Attack on Titan for five years. Netflix is bankrolling production and likely views Ranma as a longterm investment.
>>
>>282233976
>The anime is adapting 4 volumes per cour.
What are you talking about, the trailer shows stuff from vol 5 all the way to vol 10.
>>
In the manga the upcoming arcs are:
37-41: Neko-ken
42-50: Phoenix Pill
51-55: Bakusai Tenketsu
56-58: Tea ceremony
59-62: Delivery girl race
63-69: Happosai
70-73: Instant Nanniquan
74-77: Romeo and Juliet
78-80: Japanese Nanniquan
81-84: Kodachi's cookies
85-87: Ukyo
88-91: Ryoga and Akane's date
92-94: Magic bracelet
95-99: Duck Mousse

We know it's covering at least this chunk of material in some way, presumably skipping some of the less "important" arcs.
>>
>>282218877
I thought the major defense point for this was that it would be a more faithful adaptation or cover things the old didn't, without that it's just a watered down modernized version which feels pretty pointless
>>
>>282234026
Seems it is, guess I didn't really notice.
But again, the arcs being skipped are all fairly obvious in their reasoning for being skipped and the anime is maintaining a very rigid beat by beat adaptation process beyond what is skipped.
To repost my own analysis of the trailer for a while back:
>For clarification, the first season adapted everything in volumes 1-4 to an obsessive degree. Logically, the content that would be adapted in an S2 would be the arcs from 5-8, which are:
>Neko-ken (C.37-40)
>Cat's Tongue (C.41-50)
>Breaking Point (C.51-55)
>Tea Ceremony (C.56-58)
>Miss Martial Arts Takeout Race (C.59-62)
>Happosai Awakens (various episodic things like the bath-house or panty stealing) (C.63-69)
>Dojo Destroyer (C.70-73)
>Romeo and Juliet (C.74-77)
>The Hidden Spring (C.78-80)

>In the trailer, we see:
>Neko-ken (C.37-40)
>Cat's Tongue (C.41-50)
>Miss Martial Arts Takeout Race (C.59-62)
>Happosai Awakens (C.63-69)
>Dojo Destroyer (C.70-73)
>Romeo and Juliet (C.74-77)
>"Okonomiyaki" Means "I Love You" (C.85-91)
>Mousse Returns (C.95-99)

The arcs being skipped are:
>Breaking Point (C.51-55)
Which just might have been excluded from the trailer or moved to after the Shampoo/Moose content.
>Tea Ceremony (C.56-58)
Obvious skip.
>The Hidden Spring (C.78-80)
Another obvious skip. Skipping this could possibly mean a greater skipping of the more episodic Happosai content in his greater arc as well.

Nah, streaming sites always want something that can sustain longterm interest, because that can be a reason people stay subscribed.
Ranma is a weekly anime that would run through 3-4 months of subscription time depending on when the person starts up their sub. When it's ending, they might see something else, and then by the time the new season comes out, they'll stay on for another 3-4 months. That's the ideal for them.

It was three episodes, but only the first actually adapts the story from the manga. They changed the ending from Ranma finding a note saying the Nanniquan had been closed down to him finding the first of three pots that would eventually create the Nanniquan, which allowed them to make up two anime-original episodes of them looking for the other pots and the place to use them before finding that "sorry we've shut down" note.
