I don't remember if the novel ever directly mentioned it all in the context of this part of the story, but Melissa bought tickets for a play called "Return of the Count", which going by the fragmented descriptions about it seems most certainly to be alluding to being yet another case of Roselle Gustav plagiarizing popular works from his previous life, in this case it's "The Count of Monte Cristo". In that novel (and it's adaptations) it's about a guy living in the Napoleon-era who gets caught in a political conspiracy and ends up imprisoned in that era's equivalent of Alcatraz. He manages to escape by hiding underneath the corpse of his mentor while imprisoned there (or something along those lines at least, IIRC) and ultimately, like Klein does this episode, rising from a grave, so that scene was also an allusion to The Count of Monte Cristo. Similar with the fact that after the main character in that story escapes from the prison, he embarks on a revenge quest, also like Klein. The novel later makes some more allusions to The Count of Monte Cristo and Klein himself later brings it up as well but that's season 4 material.

I love LotM and I think the adaptation was beautiful, but jesus christ even if all else was perfect, I'd have to deduct at LEAST 2 points for that pacing and the decision to cram 206 chapters into 13 episodes, and I don't think it was perfect.In my opinion, the best this season can reasonably be is an 8/10 because of the pacing, anything more and you might be deluding yourself.

The man writing the manuscript was Ince, the feathers were indicating that 0-08 was doing some fuckery with what was happening.
