Very interesting indeed, I live in a little ass small town and the local Cinemark here had zero posters around the theater, nothing at all to even indicate the movie is being screened but still every single session since Thursday from Sunday were all sold out.

I buddy of mine that lives in São Paulo told me that Cinemark theaters in capitals do have posters and merchandise like cups there, so bigger cities are more aware of how big this anime movie is.
>>
>>282233380
Yeah, $70 million seems pretty solid for the Japanese box off-
>It's the North American box office
What the heck? That's crazy. I must be out of the loop because I didn't see this coming at all.
>>
>>282234344
It pulled 100+ milion from SEA territories alone.
>>
>>282233380

Americans watching anime movies en masse
Damn, anime is going mainstream
>>
>>282234504
it's been mainstream for a while
>>
Sold out everywhere for me as well in europe. Had to book for monday night
>>
>>282234504
This is going to sting a bit but anime has been mainstream in the US since the 1970s. It was played on the coveted before and after school time slots because everyone watched it.

>>
>>282233380
In the end, the international release being moved to September was a good idea, there's no Superman, Fantastic Four or any other big western release to get on the way, now it is facing the likes of Conjuring, nothing to worry about.
>>
>>282236625
At the expense of indies and mid budget movies. A bunch of movies are wiped out to make way for Demon Slayer. I wanted to see Caught Stealing but it's gone in my area.
>>
>>282236625
Conjuring should be good to go, it's a series finale and that's what DS is aiming for just with a trilogy. And they are all hunting demons.
>>
>>282234796
Comics died in the 90's.
>>
>>282237048
Yeah, it might be nice to see demon slayer raking in so much dough but at the end of the day it's pretty much another highly anticipated big franchise movie.
>>
Demon Slayer is the only thing I can imagine doing this. I don't think there's going to be a decade of anime that can be genuine global hits or something and it might lead to some real sad shit if Sony tries to force it anyway.

Oh say can you see...
>>
>>282234344
Mugen Train coming out when COVID was nearing its end but Hollywood unsure about people returning to theaters really helped raise the recognition of Demon Slayer in the U.S.
>>
>>282234592
This is only ever said by the dumbest of zoomers utterly awash in anime.
No one who ever had to scrounge for bootleg vhs tapes believed anime was mainstream in the US. Please stop saying retarded shit to minimize the level of change we've seen in our lifetimes. Thank you.
>>
>>282234470
Precure is a DBZ clone, and Dragonball is also still a thing.
>>
Is there ever any kind of stats for how many tickets are sold for dubs vs subs? That must actually be a huge pain in the ass for the theaters with a genuine hit movie.
>>
>>282233380
Will it top Super Mario?
>>
>anime is going mainstream
You been posting this since 2004....
>>
I wonder if Sony could build a good English dub studio from the ground up so people didn't have to get complete dogshit quality dubs but without it making every movie cost an extra fifty million dollars in salaries to Hollywood parasites
>>
>>282233380
still considering devaluation, nothing has surpassed chihiro movie, and what points to something is because they didn't dare to release the movie before detective conan movie otherwise would have flopped hard.
>>
>>282238371
>still considering devaluation,
Considering the yen was exactly the same as it was, mt destroyed it.
> otherwise would have flopped hard.
Yeah, conan, but that series always releases in spring, kimetsu is a summer blockbuster now.
>>
>>282234839
This makes me hope that some day I'll be able to see Precure movies in theaters in the states. Same with the PriPara x Aikatsu movie, I would have driven out for that.
>>
>>282238001
That's too much, the reach Mario has over in the US, and the world, is on another level.
>>
>>282238044
And you'll probably be hearing it till 2044 cause that's about how long till take until it's ACTUALLY inarguably mainstream.
About 130 million to go till it reaches the bottom of this chart

Where's Maid Dragon movie?
Also crazy how just a rerun of Toy Story got that much of revenue
>>
>>282240383
>Where's Maid Dragon movie?
It was released in June, and it is not ranked on that list which lists current rankings, maybe Kobayashi's Kanna movie didn't do too well.
