Pandemic weebs, and there's no cure for that plague
>>
>>282260053
Not $100M, $70M. Not too shabby, but frontloaded.
>what happened
Pandemic happened.
>>
>>282260053
I don't recall anyone ever commenting on this film to discuss artistic aspects. It's always about box office and sales. Anime is MARVELized now.
>>
>>282260053
so this is a movie or something?

yes it's the first third of the final arc

>>

Touch grass, virgin.
>>282260476
The latest superhero movie raked in $600M+. Anime isn't doing any damage to Marvel.
>>
>>282260476
You overestimate how much they care about gaijin opinions. Westerners don’t drive manga or blu ray sales. Japanese Otaku got Nakayama fired from Mappa and the whole style changed for the CSM movie despite westerners liking s1.
>>
>>282260541
marvel hasn't had a movie hit $600 million this year retard

No, but last year they had a movie hit $1 billion. Where's your anime movie that hit the billions, faggot? Even Nezha could hit $2 billion.
>and IF is going to beat Superman at the box office
Not really. Anime movies are infamously frontloaded. They make all of their money on Opening Weekend then drop off because fans have already seen it. Anime movies don't have staying power in America. It's a well documented pattern. Look at the earnings, it got cut again. Went from $21M to $15M.

What made Superman a powerhouse isn't how much it made on OW, but it's godly legs. That's all that matters for a movie.
>>
I'm still not going to watch this slop
>>
>>282260754
>That's all that matters for a movie.
I'm sure what matters to a movie is profit
>like 100 million tops for superman
>bombed everywhere internationally
oof
>>
>>282260266
>not too shabby
>the retard who said it'd do 40 million and not overtake MT's box office in general
70 million opening, in september, primed to overtake pokemon as the most watched anime movie (imagine beating pokemania at its peak) and to do 100 million in USA alone.
At this rate, it's going to completely outdo MT, despite the yen being shit.
>>
most zoomers love anime
>>
>>282260805
>>bombed everywhere internationally
Except no, it made $261M outside of America. Inside America $353M. There's a reason why Demon Slayer didn't drop at the same time as Superman or Jurassic World, it's strategically cowardly and hates direct competition. That's why they picked the empty month of September, lmfao.
>>
>>282260856
>70 million opening, in september, primed to overtake pokemon as the most watched anime movie (imagine beating pokemania at its peak)
You're fundamentally retarded. It csme put during a dead month with no competition and also It didn't beat Pokemon especially when you adjust for inflation.
>>
>>282260911
>Except no, it made $261M outside of America
As I said, bombed everywhere internationally, that's 100 million LESS than man of still.
>>
>>282260856
I didn't say it'd do $40 million, I repeated what Deadline was saying. Sony gave them a conservative estimate before more data came in. Keep up, retard. And its earnings still got cut again, went down from $21M to $15M. Like I said, frontloaded and makes all of its money from weekend. It's not going to last.
>>
>>282260975
Sundays of every film are always lower
>>
>>282260971
Wrong again, jeet.
>>
>>282260975
>I didn't say it'd do $40 million, I repeated what Deadline was saying
And you STOOD by those numbers, retard. Because you always go for the lowest possible option and get btfo'd.
>It's not going to last.
Enough to do an extra 30 million, however.

And since you are samefagging from different devices.

>>
>>282261048
>Muh septemper is a dead month
Yes retard September is a dead month
There's a reason why no big movies drop that month, cause it overlaps with football season
Imagine being such a retard that you think anime is more popular than the biggest sporting event
Is like saying anime is more popular than the Champions League or El Clásico
>>

>>
>>282260654
As much as I appreciate the optimism, this isn't how the business is run.
When Globohomo comes to destroy you, people and money don't matter.
1., You will be forced to accept the offer you are given, otherwise you're getting Shinzo Abe'd.
2., Globohomo prints money via the US Federal Reserve and gives it to its pawns to do anything anywhere. You can't financially starve a serious power move, when the people making it literally inflate the world reserve currency, the USD and by extension directly devaluing whetever FIAT currency you have, in order to give the stolen purchasing power to ANY entity under their control.
That's how Capshit can cost 300mill+ in production and at least as much in marketing,
and be okay with 600 mill or even less in total box office takes. (Which usually results in net losses at least on paper.)

In short, when it comes to IP destruction, political effort can outperform the civilian market at any given moment, since they can literally take your purchasing power directly from any form of currency you hold, and turn it against you.
>>
>>282261189
I'm not that guy you talk to
And you're still a fucking retard who thinks September isn't anything but a dead month
No big Hollywood movie drops their shit on that month, is like the wastebin month

Dropping next week and his horror movie is football themed in a football season. It's also shorter so it gets more screenings per day.
>muh NFL
Hurt Demon Slayer and cut its earnings by $10M and another $6M. Will continue to hurt it. Today, the Packers, the Cowboys and the Chiefs are playing.

Anime don't have staying power. They make exactly all of their cash on OW.

The fact you believe this is hilarious.
It made more money on saturday, but you are adamant on adding preview numbers on this just to be right.
And EVERY movie drops on sunday.
Here, your beloved superman
Saturday, July 12 $37,606,538
Sunday, July 13 $31,305,442
>>
>>282260780
Based.
>>
.>>282261306
September is a slower month because everything big would have released a month or three earlier but saying it's the wastebin month is retarded, January is the worst month to release anything in because people are unwilling to splurge after christmas drained their money. A September movie can still find success and it happens every year, a January movie is sent out to die.
>>
>>282261306
That's actually true. It you adjust Mewtwo's earnings to 2025, it would be about $160 or $170 million today. Mewtwo Strikes Back grossed $85M DOM in 1999. Using CPI inflation from 1999 to 2025 lands it close to $170M today. Its $31M OD would also be around $59 or $62 million today.

Even in 2025 dollars, Mewtwo is still the king of anime films in America by a mile.
>>
>>282261347
And yet, jeremy, it made over 70 million this weekend.
And imagine the international numbers considering how hard you understimated every single country on earth (estimates as of yesterday were at 430 million ww).
>>
>>282261503
Nope September is wastebin month cause people are back from vacation and school
They spent all money on summer, so there's lower demand for watching movies
There's a reason no big Hollywood movie drop movies there, they wait for November or December cause holiday and Oscar being round

september all the way to the end of november
>>
>>282260266
The movie is almost Avatar-long and part of a series, being frontloaded is unsurprising. Much of the audience decided they'd watch it weeks or months in advance. More than $50 million is still something many movies, including some superhero ones (which DS counts as enough) wish they could get on opening weekend.

The year before Beetlejuice 2 a Chinese movie also made half a billion with a September release date
>>
>>282261448
Except, no. Because Superman only had its earnings cut by $6M while Demon Slayer's got cut by $12M. Traders don't care about previews because they count it on Friday-by-Friday gross. Doesn't make sense, but that's standard practice for every movie.
>>282261545
>it made over 70 million this weekend
Because of frontloading, yes. And its earnings STILL got cut. Anime movies don't have staying power in America, that's why for OW they act like it's their final battle. All or nothing.
>>
Damn, you guys have been arguing about this shit all weekend? You seriously have nothing better to do? It's not like any of that money ended up in your pockets.
>>
Anime comes and goes in the west. It had mainstream in the late 90's with the Pokemon movie. Started to lose momentum and disappear after Inuyasha. Went back to being underground with the majority gathering around Naruto Everyone moved on and became parents forgetting about anime. Then the 2020 pandemic happened, everyone rediscovered anime and gathered around Demon Slayer.
>>
>>282261917
you're still a fucking retard, you retard
if movie ran for 2 whole months from september all the way to the end of november it has plenty of time to make more money
is not proof that september isn't a dead month is proof that beetlejuice is an exception to the rule
fucking retard
>>
>>282261995
I hope anime goes back to the underground the way it was just so we can get some actually good anime for once. Pandemic was the single worst thing to happen for anime.

It absolutely did not, it might make more in dollar terms than a 25 year old movie but inflation and hiked tickets prices compared to back then will mean that it won't be anywhere close to Pokémon in admissions

Demon Slayer is mainstream. Not even another shonen battle manga is going to touch this level for the foreseeable future, much less CGDCT or Naroushit.

>>282263012
It's not like wani makes much from the movie.

>>
>>282260303

>>
>>282263012
I mean, they own like 10% of it through the committee. How are you going to buy out 90% with 10%?
>>
>>282260053
Anime can be popular if it has an accessible story and doesn't include pervy weeb shit. If a different author wrote this story, Tanjiro would have a harem, there would be incest vibes between him and Nezuko and it wouldn't be anywhere as popular as it is today. If a mangaka wants this level of success, they need to follow Wani's lead.
>>
>>282260303
Akaza was designed for this fight and his backstory from panel 1 of his first appearance. The entire "mentor sacrifices himself to save his student" hero's journey plot point in Mugen Train, where the strong sacrificed himself to protect the weak, was built around Akaza's plot in this. Demon Slayer makes a lot of hard disciplined mythic writing look easy.
>>
>>282263212
Also even his clothing is mean precisely for the fights he gets
>rengoku's family cloth
>tanjiro's haori made by his mom
>gayuu's haori with part of sabito's in it
>akaza's outfit has the symbol of snow in it
Wani lays it pretty well.
>>
>>282263195
I thought it was curious Nezuko is one of the most recognizable characters in this series but she's barely in this movie despite Muzan's endgame being her. Cue monstrous box office. Inosuke, who is also very recognizable, appeared more.

>>
>>282260654
Anon, manga sell millions in the west. Also, the style of the Chainsawman movie is a compromisse between the season 1 of the anime and the manga, because Mappa can't ignore the huge western audience.
>>
>>282263402
Basically all the pillars + tamayo got promoted to main characters over the course of the infinite fortress + final battle so if you're actually reading it during serialization it's easy to see there was just no place you could have fit any Nezuko stuff and still keep the battles as amazingly coherent as they were. But with two year gaps for people to find things to yap about it's going to be noticed.
>>
>>282260053
The funny thing is that the numbers are going to stay high because the movie is rewatchable as fuck

>>

>>
>>282263433
It's also going to be Kanao and Inosuke vs Douma.

>>282263402
She is basically shelved until the big finale. I don't think it's really a problem. Rengoku still has enormous popularity based on one movie that came out 5 years ago now. He still gets as much fan art as the other characters. Kimetsu has reached that level of iconography where the popularity is self-sustaining.
>>
>>282260303

>>
>>282263600

It was crazy seeing people hype up the csm anime as if it could ever be as popular, just because it would look pretty.
No amount of advertising, animation, or music will change the fact that Kimetsu no Yaiba simply has more cross demographic appeal than Chainsaw Man
Going on a quest to save your family member is more acceptable to the gen pop than wanting to touch boobs. This should not be a shocking revelation.

>>
>>282264899
Well, I've never read CSM and I don't like Bleach, but when people think of the biggest battle shonens, they'll still remember Bleach more than KnY, because like it or not, Bleach is big and influenced many works, including KnY, which in turn is mostly remembered for its commercial success. The same happened with Your Name (which I'm sure you only remembered now because I said so).
>>
>>282265274
Koku's backstory IS a tragedy.
>>
>>282265206
You will not understand a damn thing, you bloody retard.
>>
>>282265250
Nah I still think CSM could have done well, mostly if the adaptation had just been funny. And if Fujimoto just hadn't done part 2 and had moved on to something else it would have a good shot at still having a real fan base.
>>
>>282265302
People harp on this too much. I've read reviews from people that knew nothing about DS and they enjoyed it fine and it probably drives them to go and watch the whole series.

I've seen anons complaining about the ending but I don't get it. Especially with the expanded epilogue, KnY has a good ending. There are no loose ends, the characters get an emotional sendoff and flashforward with the grandkids is heartwarming.
It helps that there are no ship wars in this series.

The number of 10/10 votes is surprising considering all those filler flashbacks. I don't care that it's a faithful adaption, it's just lazy to not adapt the adaption to fit as an action movie.

Or maybe I'm just too dead inside or too old to react emotionally to them.
>>
>>282265313
>mostly if the adaptation had just been funny
Nah. Shit like Demon Slayer sells because it invests in two things that normies love: cuteness and suffering. There's suffering in CSM, but no cuteness. Denji is grotesque, Power is grotesque, Makima is grotesquely hot etc etc.
>>
>>282265407
No one will care about Demon Slayer once the anime ends.
>>
>>282265582
Yeah... I find myself praising Kimetsu for the things it doesn't do just as much (if not more) as I praise it for the things it does do.

Gotouge will never make another manga. Not because she's rich now, but because she knows that as a manga artist she's mediocre and without sakuga, flashy colors and violins that would be obvious to everyone, including herself.

Akaza earned redemption because he appeared non-threatening to the girl he was caring for. He only appeared monstrous after fighting demon hunters for centuries.
>>
>>282265856
By the time it's all said and done, Kimetsu will be look back on as a classic of the genre, at least in Japan. The fact that it's so short and the story is so mythical makes it much easier to be appreciated by later generations than something like Bleach. No one in their right mind wants to rewatch or reread all of Bleach due to excessive bloating and filler (both manga and anime). But they will want to marathon Kimetsu.

To be clear, I liked Mugen Train because it was pretty, had a tense scenario, had great action and SFX, and the obligatory drama wasn't too embarrassing. I'm not expecting Shakespeare from a shonen movie.
RtHT sucked ass because they burnt all the sakuga budget in the opening fight (which was 40% internal monologues and flashbacks), then the rest of the movie was exposition and chibi slapstick shonen comedy.

Entire theater was packed, when I ordered my ticker the was like a total of 4 seats left which is the most filled up theater I’ve seen ever. I think it was a good movie, but it was MASSIVELY padded out. I enjoyed most of the dubbed performances, but I still wish I could have sawn it in sub. The couple sitting next to me was trashing the ending and writing which I found pretty funny. Next time I’ll see it in sub or I’ll just wait till it releases on digital. 7/10

Comparing budgets here seems dumb. Japan somehow manages to make an Oscar-winning Godzilla movie with a Blumhouse budget. The last Conjuring movie seems to have cost more than the average horror movie but they still made more than $2 billion bucks in theaters with the entire franchise so who cares.

More importantly, that movie is almost 10 movies in within a franchise and sold as a series finale that will probably be rebooted just with no confirmation so far, Demon Slayer is growing an audience with the expectation of 2 more movies.

Overall, I was just there for the fun. I want to believe that the homie Akaza went to heaven/was redeemed, but they show him surrounded by fire after he hugs his fiance ghost. He could have redeemed himself by helping to fight Muzan too, but maybe that wouldn't work out, as he has his blood in him, he can't betray him. In a way, he is possessed.

>what happened

Comics went woke. They started inserting woke shit in every major comic. They also said they didn't need the old fans. They wanted to cater to their new magical "Modern audience". Thus they pushed out all the old comic fans.

With nowhere to go... all the old comic fans started reading manga. That shit wasn't woke. And thus.... Manga overtook comics. Demon Slayer led the charge and became the most popular graphic novel at the time in the west.

Even if you only look at North America, anime becoming mainstream happened 20 years ago at the absolute latest.
The term "Big Three" literally existed as a term Japanese producers used to describe the, at the time, novel simultaneous international (predominately American) success of the Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece manga and anime in the mid-late 2000s.
At the same time, the following shows were all ubiquitous and incredibly popular among western audiences:
>Gurren Lagann
>Code Geass
>Death Note
>Dragon Ball (which had really aired from 1998-2005~ in America)
>Soul Eater
>Fullmetal Alchemist (which had aired in 2004 and was remarkably beloved)
Among many others, and if you REALLY REALLY want to stretch things, in 2013 SAO and Attack on Titan release and were the next big successful anime that, again, became dominant in the mainstream. I remember threads identical to these ones about how SAO was the "next Naruto" in regards to how many normalfags it attracted. That was about 50% of the shit it would get in threads, that it was another Naruto.

>every anime has the audience of KnY
>hollyslop does not have this kind of audience
you got more baseless assumptions to throw there or you're done?

If they made a canon dbz movie that looked like this I'd watch it 5 times

CSMfags were a special flavor of delusional in 2022
>>
>>282260149
maybe if western culture wasn't so repulsive today those darn tootin' weebs wouldn't consume animeshit
>>
>>282265250
I was one of the ones that thought CSM would do much better because I thought it would capture the "westoid pseud" spirit the same way SnK did, as in a dumb work that makes dumb people feel smart. But the anime just wasn't funny enough.

Broly was made canon, something that many DBfags were wishing for since they were babies, and the movie has some good animation far beyond Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F, when it is not using CGi of course.

It became the highest grossing DB movie to date, but still can't touch KnY records with Mugen Train and now Infnity Castle.
>>
Is not mainstream until another anime movie surpasses KnY

God once they graduate from shonen they're going to come over to all the other genres.
That mainstream keeps on growing ever larger, where is the crest of this tsunami of shit.

Dragonball can't please its chimpanzee fanbase and normal human beings with the same movie
>>
>>282265444
There is no emotional investment in it.
kny just got popular because covid destroyed the entertainment industry in the west for a few years and the kny shilling to streamers and celebrities was successful.
>>
>>282277028
That's being adapted into the anime, retards are pissing away money.
Why even make tv series when you can get hundreds of millions from movies?
>>
>>282278782
When I was younger the pokemon and digimon movies were always packed too. I remember our movie theaters go fuck the fire safety rules and let people sit on the ground just to watch the movies because the theaters were so packed
>>
>>282260053
I read the manga as it was coming it and thought it was decent enough to continue reading until the end but nothing memorable. I'm surprised at the success it's seeing but maybe that can be explained by the story not having any major blunders and superb animation.
>>
>>282282395
>Not any major blunders
Well I say that but now I remember the last fight sucked ass
>>
I watched the movie today, too many flashbacks and visual metaphors the one where Tanjiro slowly figures out how to get around Akaza's guard has 2 seperate 5 flashbacks back to back followed up a 5 minute spectacle of him entering the see through world before he actually does something.
>>
ONE PIECE POPULAR
DEREFORE ONE PIECE BAD
ONE PIECE HAVE SAD BACKSTORY
THEREFORE SAD BACKSTORY BAD
ME AM UNIQUE AND EDGY

I mean a movie about some part of the manga, not nu super shit

Move to a white country
>>
>>282260053
Nothing has changed.
A couple shounenshit and the occaisional Frieren get popular with normalfags and the rest are invisible to them.
>>
did the sword color ever come up besides that one episode tanjiro got a black one?
>>
>>282260053
I wonder how much Croc makes from this. Was she able to negotiate a new contract after the success of the first movie?
>>
>>282282125
unironically movies are more available than anime series to the average mouthbreather thinking torrents = bad even if its still published by crunchy roll. if crunchyroll werent so fucking retarded with their region locking and publishing, people would pay for tv series too.
>>
>>282284016
When Inosuke gets two new swords after the Natagumo Mountain arc. The color effect comes up again.
>>
>>282284201
I know this happened before hashira training but i genuinely do not remember it
>>
>>282260053
the slow mo cuts with the over explaining were so cringe
>>
>>282284341
Dozo
>>
>>282285253
Yeah, that does ring a bell, but was it ever useful besides fluff? They point out that black wielders die quickly as a superstision
>>
>>282285685
The superstition is a direct result of Sun Breathing completely dying out, to the point the Corps thought Black Blades meant the slayer was not compatible with any type of Breathing they knew of.

Also it is not fluff, you see Giyu's blade was broken in this movie, yet he doesn't replace it any other blade laying around till the very until he finds a dead Slayer with the same Water Breathing affinity as him, it is hard confirmation a Slayer cannot fight with their fullest potential with Nichirin Blades other than their elemental affinity.
>>
>>282260053
Wani doesn’t make much from the movies right? I heard she made shit amount of money with mugen train
>>
>>282260053
In 6 months no one else will be talking about this shit anymore. Demon Slayer needs to be airing to "exist".
>>
>>282287035
That's retarded. Then if pink woman's or that snake dude's weapon would break they would be dead in the water because there don't seem to be any other love and snake breathing users respectively.
>>
>>282282425
>Well I say that but now I remember the last fight sucked ass
The godlike fight?
>>
>>282287355
correct, is great
>>
>>282287355
Their parent Breathing are Flame and Water respectively, I would assume they wouldn't be completely helpless, they learned the basics of those before creating their spin-offs.
>>
>>282287277
Actually 2 weeks then it will totally be forgotten
>>

Kill yourself zoomer retard
