This is literally the biggest tragedy to happen to anime in the last 30+ years.
The consequences of this will only become clear in the next 5-10 years.

dragon ball can make infinitely more. A few months back there was a official rescreening of battle of gods marketed as a "fan event" in bosnian theaters for about 2 days and it was unironically the only time ive ever seen a full movie theater and ive been going to the same place for years now. It was rescreened in other countries in the region too

>>
>>282271770
>Beauty and the Beast ballroom animation trick?
It's not a trick, at least not in Beauty and the Beast where they spent months just on that scene's timing.
Timing in this case being matching the cel drawings to the background cgi so it looks like they're the same camera angle.
>>
>>282271446
It has some nice moments, as far as katana fighting animation goes, but the characters and plot are weaker than random mid-low budget forgotten 00s anime like Law of Ueki or Black Cat. You can expect a bunch of visual effects, slightly likeable archetypes as characters, weird-ish character design, some CGI slop (albeit better executed than a lot of other CGI slop), everyone to have had a traumatic experience that shaped them to become the hero/villain they are, training arcs, mentor characters, a chuunin/hunter exam, named attacks, asspull powerups, you know the fucking drill, it's fighting shounen, it doesn't try to be anything else.

Demon Slayer is the only anime film that draws such large audiences.
Dragon Ball and Jujutsu Kaisen rank below it, but neither comes close to Demon Slayer’s current pulling power.
Shonen is still very much a minor genre on the global stage.

If you’ve been watching anime, it’s nothing new or special. It’s just done very well. It has minimal, if any, filler and the plot moves on. The MC is kind but not a bitch, he’s not a deku. The supporting cast is good, especially Inosuke. The biggest draw, is it looks great, it has a unique style. The first time I watched Demon Slayer, it was pretty refreshing. It didn’t try to have “deeper” meanings, it was straightforward. I enjoyed it, it’s not my favorite, but i can appreciate it. /a/ hates anything popular, and desu, sometimes it’s for good reason. Just watch it and make your own opinion.

i want to go see it and I could, but i think i will wait until the BDs are on torrents for the only reason that I don't want to give money to the western industry. i don't want people working in western movie theaters to be employed. i don't want westerners localizing Japanese culture and subverting it to be employed. I don't want westerners making dubs employed. So ethically it would be wrong for me to buy a movie ticket in the west.

All solid points. I truly wish that piracy was as damaging as game and media companies made it out to be, that every torrent literally robbed them of profits

>>
>>282270903
Most people on this board don't even know who Go Nagai or Leiji Matsumoto are so let's not pretend the anime fandom is some refuge from normies. You probably spend more time shitting on western comic books and films (which every single great mangaka read and was influenced by at some point) than you do actually reading manga.
>>
>>282274726
If you actually care about Japanese culture, you should go watch it.
Demon Slayer is probably the only franchise that can put up Hollywood-tier numbers worldwide, and it’s not an exaggeration to say the future status of anime and Japanese culture on the global stage depends on this series.
Dragon Ball and Naruto are fossils.
Jujutsu Kaisen is another hope but its #2, and maybe won't gonna leave numbers as iconic as Demon Slayer.
>>
>>282270903
NO! This is the beginning of the cleansing. Capeshit struggles to break a billion dollars worldwide, now they have to be reminded about fighting the biggest foe of all... demons!

Honestly, if they had gone for a worldwide simultaneous release, I think it could have pulled in twice the box office revenue.
The sheer number of camrip pirated copies flooding online in July was unprecedented, I haven’t seen anything on that scale since Endgame.
That was proof of demand, and because Aniplex made the stupid decision to delay the Western release by two whole months, they ended up losing a huge amount of potential profit along with countless records they probably could have broken.
>>
>>282274973
The only thing that should matter is it does well in the Japanese market for Japanese people. The western release should be treated as the second class citizen it is.

What are you guys talking about? This happened because things have already changed.

Anime and the internet ARE for normalfags now. And yes, anime, followed by manga, will be sanitised to make it acceptable to neo-puritan Westerners and younger generations. Yes, oldfags of /a/, your hobby is dying.
>>
>>282275032
It's not even being sanitized, it's just being straight up outlawed by the west now from fear of competition.
Australia, canada, the uk, france, spain have all made some aspect of anime/manga illegal in their countries. The U.S. is next.
>>
>>282274835
kinda respectable, how do you find the files? private tracker? some series on nyaa seem to lose all their seeds within months of airing
>>
>>282275057
And the corpos will follow the money. If anime needs to be cleaned up to have mass appeal in the globalized shitfest modern world it will be. That market will eclipse the old, small, otaku market. We'll look back in 20 years time and see anime up to the mid 10s as a wholey differnt thing. There won't be an outsider, non-normalfag 'otaku culture' driving anime in the future.

If they really think that way, then they’re complete idiots.
The Japanese market is only going to shrink further due to the declining birthrate, and with the yen crashing, there’s no point in clinging to it anymore.
Infinity Castle will likely be the first Japanese film to generate more profit overseas than in Japan. Even now, probably about half of its worldwide box office revenue is coming from outside Japan.
Once they face that reality, Sony will realize just how wrong their decision was.

The biggest tragedy was when KnY alone outsold the entire comic industry since it put them on sight for americans to try to destroy anime out of spite
This one will be comparable since they will try once again to get their hands on it, and if they cant then they will try to keep destroying japanese media for daring to overtake their own media.

>retard misunderstands the concept of gatekeeping
You don't (can't) gatekeep a whole medium, you gatekeep insular communities.
"Twitter" and "Youtube" are not communities. The local theatre is not a "community" unless it's a non-franchise arthouse theatre. These cannot be gatekept because they function regardless of userbase, not because of.
/a/ was at one point gatekept not by whining about how a shitty movie is successful but by abiding by retarded made up rules and self-policing, which none of you will ever do because none of you actually care about quality of community or whatever, you want to play the victim and feel like you're a part of something.
Ego maniacs.

Mr. President, a second movie has hit theaters.

All hardcore /a/ users are all gone now. By complaining about this, you're one of the few remaining and can't let go or you're one of the tourists LARPing as an oldfag. Which one is it?

>We will stop getting isekai shit caused by SAO being super popular
>A bad thing
This sounds a plus to me.

This. Only subhumans watch Dub. This would have never happened in a Sub showing.
>>

It's uplifting you fucking fag.

>Which one is it?
I'm not actually mad that /a/ isn't gatekept, I'm more making fun of you for being retarded.
/a/ devolving into a shithole was an inevitability. No point being upset about it.

It's just far better than moeshit.

SAO is not Isekai
SAO is not a harem
Harem is a sexual polyamorous relationship with three or more women
Asuna ruined SAO by turning it from a science fiction adventure to a rom com
Action > standing around and talking
Deal with it

I will keep complaining about this movie and there nothing you can do but cry about it
>>
>>282284853
>”I’m sad, therefore I deserve special privileges and opportunities”

its resonance within an echo chamber. If you think it’s uplifting, it’s because you’re hearing your own voice as an affirmation that you think you’re special. You’re not special at all - get over yourself, or kill yourself. Everyone will be relieved you’re no longer dragging them down, either way.

Everyone. All the dame time. Whenever there's something popular, it's going to ruin anime.
>>
>>282286174
I don't know why people don't like the anime about the girls doing underwater basket weaving while watching paint dry.

At least thanks to Asuna we could explore SEX IN VIRTUAL REALITY
Anyway, poor hospital bed where Kirito left those "2 years of accumulated cum"

I don't get how people think there's a distinction between civilians and shounen consumers. No shit, show from the biggest household name in comics in Japan has non-otaku following it
>>
>>282284185
All the BDs are out by the time I want to watch so I don't have to suffer stream quality on the first watch if I so choose. And I avoid following seasonal airing so I don't have to suffer any of the obnoxious normalfags trying to fit in with the flavor of the month and get an objective perspective since it's already finished airing.

Weird issue to fixate on, might aswell stop watching anime with that mindset.

I generally don't talk about anime with people online anymore. This is the first time I've posted on /a/ in months or maybe a year I forgot. /a/ was overrun with /tv/ and /pol/ and /v/edditors years ago sadly. I just watch anime at my traditional year behind schedule and enjoy it.

Howso? I have more than enough to keep me busy throughout the year, what benefit do I gain by staying current?
