Do you think modern anime has both more quantity AND quality than older(80s) anime? The former is objectively true. I'd argue the latter is too. Most of those shows have aged poorly and have obvious flaws.

A lot of 80s stuff is really hard to watch now unless it's background noise imo, but it has better style and backgrounds. 90s-early 2000s is a good range, but I'm constantly blown away by a lot of new stuff. The usage of filters to make newer animation look older/traditional goes a long way and I hope more studios do that, digital shit has always looked worse unless it's drawn insanely well and fast-paced.

One Piece looked shit for years because everything was so damn static. It still is sometimes, but they at least now have occasional segments where the animation is insane in between the minute-long mouth-breather reaction shots.
