Why is this fucker unclothed throughout the whole movie? What are you watching recently?
i don't watch much retro anime but i did enjoy toradora
>>282283181I don't think toradora counts as retro but thanks for sharing anon. I never read it honestly.
>>282283136Burn up W. Nanvel a cute i bet she smells good
>>282283136>What are you watching recently? The Casshern OVAs because i don't want to jump straight into casshern sins. The Harlock TV show because i want to get a feel of the character before diving into Arcadia of my Youth.>>282283918I remember seieng it once. I don't remember anything about it beyond the fanservice scenes.
>>282284192Its what the young'uns would call "campy" these days because it is pretty mild and nothing too fancy. Still, its got charm like any other 90s anime
I'm probably going to get back into watching Dirty Pair and Bubblegum crisis. Kei is the hotter one btw
I've been watching time bokan recently. It's pretty funny for a kids show
starting this, will be back in a short while.
Lately been re-watching DPF 2
Ankoku Shinwa. I actually liked the ride, but the ending was abysmally bad and meaningless.
One pound gospel. Femc fixed the loser mc and Rumiko herself cheered I guess.
>>282283918I want to watch the Burn Up OVA and then the other Burn Up series but I didn't come to watch it yet.I'm interested in watching more Yamashita Toshinari anime besides Divergence Eve.I'm also rewatchimg Saber Marionette J.
Currently going through Ashita no Joe 2 after finishing the original a few months ago.I want to shoot this guy in the fucking face.
I wish Angel Cop didn't go full retard in the second half, the first 3 episodes were so damn good. At least it looks great through the whole thing.
>>282285551this is next up on my list after dirty pair. I can't believe i never watched this before
recently watched Fortune Quest. Definitely leaned more into the Dragon Quest style and while it was no Ruin Explorers it was fun.
bump gonna watch more time bokan
Vifam
>>282283136I'm slowly watching Yawara and I watched Sotsugyou Graduation, Sailor Victory, and rewatched Ruin Explorers a few weeks ago.>>282283918I will always have fond memories of Burn-up W it was one of the fist anime tapes that I bought. I've rewatched it a few times over the years and still find it amusing.
>>282283136Fanservice.
>>282287359I love Yamashita's character designs.
>>282287443I agree, they're great.
>>282287815Their limbs are long, their tits are big, their butts are big, they are skiny compared to their height. A good combination although I sometimes prefer thicc designs.
>>282287867thicc is a meme spread by people looking to justify their own over weight physic and failure to put down the fork
>>282287815>>282287867And he never forgets to give them heels.
>>282287922Here's a fun looking show full of fan service. I bet a joyous time will be held by all
>>282287902With thicc I mean something like this.
>>282287985Or something like this.
>>282284192The Harlock TV show is a masterpiece
Nuku Nuku OVAs 1-3 in the British dubhttps://archive.org/details/nukunukuukdub
>>282287317Oh Sharon. Do you have any good shots of Maki?
Galaxy Express 999>>282288919still watching, but so far no fanservice for maki unless you count open hair maki
>>282288919>>282288972which looks like this
>>282288972>>282289017Floof is always good. But yeah from what I've seen, Sharon and Kate are more the 'fanservice' characters
>>282284192Arcadia and the following SSX were neat. I do love the romanticism that comes in Leiji stuff. Just genuine awe at the grandeur of space.
>>282283136Megazone 23, the first one. It was pretty fun. Why did you set the time period of this world to be the end of the 20th century?Because that was the most peaceful period in human history.https://youtu.be/emEdYBGJAH8?si=s7PoRJpdB46sR7NH
>>282284724Fuck that was so good. The score, the color and character designs give a really unique mood to the film. Fuse is probably one of the best stoic protagonist that I have seen.
Panzer World Galient
>>282283136I try to watch at least two oldshits every month, for variety. Finished Genocyber, Lemnear, Five Star Stories, and A Wind Named Amnesia recently. Future Boy Conan and Fandora are on the docket currently. If Aria and Gundam Wing count as retro then those too I guess. I have Galaxy Express, Cyber City Oedo, and Takarajima ready to go after that. >>282284192For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Harlock TV show much more than Arcadia.>>282289395Thanks for the reminder, I still need to watch SSX.>>282289672Fun show, great villain.
>>282289724absolutely correctI am 3/4 of the way through and Mardoul is such a fun villain. very understanding boss and doesn't give a shit about most failures of his silly henchmen
>>282283136I watched mostly a bunch of Leiji and Yasuhiko anime
>>282285847When will somebody sub the whole TV series?
>>282290311Kakka...
>>282290231>Yasuhiko nice
>>282290370Like five episodes were even licensed and dubbed but I don't know what happened after
Getting close to the end of Pastel Yumi, I am guessing this show's schedule was awful because it has 3 recap episodes in a 25 episode show. The grandpa who is an adventurer is the best character while her two fat friends are the worst.Thinking about watching Hyper Police. Has anyone seen it?
>>282290534>Thinking about watching Hyper Police. Has anyone seen it?It's got fox girls
both yas and leiji worked on yamato
>>282290380you can't deny he has great ideas. I wish we got more gundam series from him rather than tomino sperging out
>>282290570yeah there's a lot of overlap from those old guys from way back.
>>282290380He drew Sakura Miku.
>>282290960omgmigu !!
>>282290570Yeah in fact Leiji opened the door for Yasuhiko's manga style
>>282291487did you read cucuruz's manga? I had to do a double take on who actually drew it when i first opened it. ono seems to have a really good copying style so while it wont compare to yas I wonder if we'll get something like story ideas thought of by yas but published under ono.it's not perfectly matched but interesting to think of
>>282292111I find that whole situation odd. The film version was fine but why this and why after all this time.
>>282292492You have to be more specific. what's exactly odd about it?
>>282292588Just to go to this great a length to fuss over what was essentially a low quality padding episode from 1979.
>>282292628Why not? there's plenty of stuff you can expand on and just takes a matter of passion.
>>282292111Nope, just watched the anime which was fine. Did you like the manga?>>282292492>>282292628He's talked about it. >>282290380Venus Wars looks so nice.
>>282287317How's Vifam, anon?Been in my list for a long time. I like the opening a lot, so i might gove it priority if its any good.
Rewatching OG Gundam since I'm reading the novel. Genuinely surprised at how much the novel reads, it feels like a genuine cliffnotes of the books. I haven't got to the deviation point yet though. On a side note too, I want to get into RoV because of SMT IV and was wondering if I should watch the anime, movie or manga first? I gave the manga a try but the shoujo artstyle is fucking killing me lmfao.
>>282294003to be fair anon, the novels were written later/concurrently than the original show
Watch Getter Robo. Not a request.
We do not want to watch getter getterschizo
I will eventually watch getter robo, getterschizo, but not because you told me to
Time bokan is still pretty good
>>282296003Read the manga, desu.Armaggedon is just a mess when it comes to plot. It's fun dumb rule of cool action, but the actual juice of the franchise is in the manga.
Do you ever sometimes just find yourself wistfully thinking of space
Because I do. A lot.
>>282297204The first TV series is great. Good teamwork, challenging fights with lots of combination action. Basically everything you want from a Getter series. Just ignore the existence of G.
Any other older kid/kid friendly shows that aren't translated or lack raws? Also hope The Two Lottes/Parent Trap anime gets a proper release some day
Is this too new to be considered retro? It started in '96. Began with the anime then immediately switched to the manga after about episode ~15 because the pacing was slow. Everyone here has probably seen this to some capacity but I doubt few even finished it. Watched as a kid on TV but that's as far as I went until now. Some takeaways revisiting this as an oyaji:>Rumiko does not give a shit about backgrounds at all. Actually worse than Kubo. Kubo will at least draw characters in a frame, Rumiko just draws the ensemble cast as small as possible in the corner of the frame and repeats this for half a chapter. 80% of a chapter will actually just be blank space if she can get away with it>Rumiko loves drawing military soldiers and villagers en masse and immediately killing them off the next page. Later on, she will do it all in one page and murder everyone within 2 panels. Over and over. You see two monks at the start of the chapter? goodbye motherfuckers. You are dead as shit. I'd say about half the chapters start off the exact same way: A bunch of people die, Inuyasha smells blood. >The Miroku-Naraku Wasp cuckoldry started off as annoying and just became hilarious later on. Whatever Miroku wants to do there's just some wasps casually laying around telling him to go fuck himself. Seriously there's probably 200+ instance of this happening>2/3 of Inuyasha is complete worthless filler. I'd say the manga can be summarized as 'mandatory performative foreplay'. Nobody really enjoys it, least of all Rumiko. But she knows she has to do it. So we waste a lot of fucking time on the same shit.
I wanted to watch Air Master, but the only batches I could find was ripped from fucking Kissanime so I put it on hold.
>>282293998I like it a lot. If you like Mobile Suit Gundam, there is a good chance you will like Vifam as well, as there are many thematic similarities. Altough there is a good chance you will like it if you didn't like MSG. The first half felt much less mecha driven than the second.>>282298866according to an older thread a while back a show called anmitsu hime has no subtitles. nyaa looks to have 2 episodes. i didn't look further into it
I had fun
>>282294633doesn't that make it weirder lol.feels more like the novel is a blueprint of the show
>>282298866im going to to keep shilling time bokan
>>282284724>>282289668>this is now retroI'm old
Is there any stuff from the 40/50s that are good? Even children's shows. I'm pretty curious about that time range
>>282301343Well, yeah, it's 26 years oldDo you think otakus in 1990 were saying, "But... but Gigantor is still pretty new, right?"

They just FUCKED. How old is she supose to be?It was alright btw. "muh robot discrimination" is such a overplayed trope in cyberpunk. Also with AI being a thing now, i can't feel sorry for these clankers anymore.
How easy would it be to remaster old anime which only exist in DVD or VHS form?It is not like you can scan the original tapes in a higher resolution like you can with movies...
>>282304282True. I prefer my robots being evil/emotionless murder machines in my shows.
>>2823022511. 50s Toei. Hakujaden, but also their shorts and Shounen Sarutobi Sasuke.2. Kenzo Masaoka's shorts from the 40s3. Noburo Ofuji's shorts from the 40s and 50sWould be the main thing. Then Mitsuyo Seo's shorts + propaganda film from the 40s, Tadahito Mochinaga's puppet shorts from the 50s, and some outliers like Madame Butterfly, Mahou no Pen, Poron Guitar, Hyoutan Suzume.
>>282304365If there are no masters, it can't be done. You would think AI could do the trick, but so far the results are just not worth the effort

>Hyōdo, help me...This whole scene was batshit insane. How come 80's ovas had such good gore?
I think the reason everything feels like slop now is because producers and companies aren't willing to take risks with their production so everything feels sanitized. add in with animation being expensive and time consuming to produce on n indie scale.
>>282305045It's been said before, but the people who used to make anime/manga had a long list of interests and life experiences. People who watched anime to some extent also. Now anime (and most media in general if we're gonna be fair) is made by people whose only outside exposure at all is that media.
>>282304467Np, that era is pretty interesting
I've been working through various mecha series, since I never dived into them muchGundam 79Macross PlusGunbusterPatlabor OVA
>>282302996Bravo. The music was especially well composed.
>>282304762The 80s had good everything. It was the economic bubble.
>>282302996I think this was about post war guilt. Like Japan was haunted for what it did to the Asian mainland.
>>282306352Gunbuster was pure kino, Macross Plus had some beautiful animation tooStill watching through the other two. Gundam has some filler, but I like the general plot
>>282306653I wish I could watch Gunbuster for the first time again
>>282307207Is the new dub good? How are the screams? I can't find any clips.
>>282307234>Is the new dub good?Don't know. Didn't watch it. Why the fuck would you?

>>282290534What is the best 80's magical girl? I like cool animation and weird shit happening.
>>282302222Checked.
I liked Labyrinth of Flames. Are Project A-ko and Agent Aika good?
>>282307986>Project A-koI thought it was shit, but many seem to like it here, so....The sequel is definetly bad tho
>>282292628Yas liked the story of that episode a lot but he was hospitalized while they were working on the animation so he couldn't supervise/fix shit himself and was upset about how it turned out.
>>282307986>Labyrinth of FlamesI haven't thought about this one since a friend bought a burned DVD with all the episodes from some gypsy back in the 2000s
>>282304282>Also with AI being a thing now, i can't feel sorry for these clankers anymore.AI has been shit with all these ai art and weird answers and bots. Maybe robots will be really discrimminated because of that? That said anime robot girls are awesome.
>>282308410what about cyborgs?
>>282308956I like Silent Mobius very much
>>282307207The first two episodes didn't prepare me for the rest, it was am amazing wild ride
>>282308956I don't care.
Been getting through Legend of the Galactic Heroes. WHY!?
What are some good animes similar to Space Battleship Yamato? I don't know much about late 70s and early 80s animoo.
>>282311454depends what you mean by similar. Galaxy Express 999 is also about a long journey through space, but its not a crew of people trying to save earth. or a crew at all>>282311167because the narrator was out for blood
>>282311454Captain Tylor is a good show. Not quite exactly like Yamato but it's a good space show
I've been catching up on some old shows and realized just how much stuff made it to my country but aired at crazy hours, so I never got around to watching themOne Piece at 4AM? Azuki-san on a sports channel? Lost Universe one single summer and never again? Come on...
>>282311454Blue Noah is off brand Yamato. Still solid.
>>282312297You used to have to put effort into watching your series
>>282311454Gundam?
>>282312900It was inconvenient in a lot of ways but that more ritualistic approach does tend to build a strong attachment to things I believe. we're in the opposite extreme were it's so convenient people just move on too easily or get frozen with choice.
>>282311454Macross
>>282313072Going back to classic SDF or even DYRL is kind of a trip after how crazy later Macross seasons got. I miss that old kind of analog sci fi. No holographic HUDS just nice chunky monitors and bridges
>>282311454The sequels to Yamato
>>282311454Leiji got quite a few things done over the years

>>282314176I love how this looks like a Sega Saturn FMVhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gkFlcFnfVxE
>>282314772I fend early 00s CGI very fascinating. I'd hardly say it looks good or aged gracefully but there's something about it I can't help but be drawn to. It's got it's own personality and had this experimental feel rather than a cost cutting one you see today.
>>282314931I liked how Kizumonogatari used CG with purely 2d characters and purely CG backgroundsWhen it's an obvious cost cutting measure it never looks good
Everything looks fun
>>282311167it really goes to shit after this
>>282284192You really should watch the original 70s Casshern. The OVAs are rushed and don't have enough time to flesh out characters. I also didn't like how it threw in a sympathetic "I care for the planet!" angle to Braiking Boss for no good reason. And Sins isn't even a Casshern show; it has NOTHING to do with the original or the OVAs, the only thing it shares are the character designs. I have no idea why they resurrected the IP to make something completely unrelated. I personally did not like it at all-- I felt it was far too moody and preachy-- but I can see why some people love it. The artstyle and animation were certainly very nice.
>>282317281>have no idea why they resurrected the IP to make something completely unrelated.Coulda been worse.
>>282317371What a coincidence, I was about to start watching Gatchaman. Is it worth watching anything apart from the original? And yes, Gatchaman Crowds is equally baffling.
>>282317481The 90s OVA is fun, though it's basically just a shorter, edgier more 90s version of the 70s show.
>>282317797That's good to know, thanks. I was thinking of watching the 90s version afterwards anyway, because I love Aniki's version of the OP that came with it.https://youtu.be/KYMxA-biF4M
>accidentally watch crusher joe ova firstNo wonder I didn't understand shit. Still good though
>>282284724I watched this recently too.I was very disappointed when it wasn't about guys in cool armor shooting stuff and instead spent the runtime beating the viewer over the head with a little red riding hood metaphor.
>>282318897What's to understand. He's space rescue guy.
What do you all consider retro anyways? Before 2000? Before some landmark anime?
>>282323143Ink and paint.
>>282323143currently retro for me is anything before anime started getting pozzed and undermined. So probably 2010 going backin my romanticized view, when i was 15 in 2000s the jump from grainy, dirty looking 4:3 images quality to clean looking 16x9 digital animation was the demarcation point me
>>282317797>>282320741https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10QcfbD2IoU
Didn't know they made a 90s Gall Force, just found it looking up space stuff.
>>282323143Not specifically BEFORE 2000 but definitely in that ball park. Which is also weirdly enough when I feel like a lot of my other hobbies started to shift away from how I like them too.
Can you believe there are people who watch anime about things that aren't space? crazy right?
>>282302429Druing a joke in Stop!! Hibari-kun they call the original Gundam "an old show".The episode aired in July 1983, meaning Gundam was less than four years old; and if the joke's in the manga, even less.
>>282307426>80's magical girl>cool animation and weird shit happeningMinky Momo
>>282308956Cyborgs are just humans with implants. If you got a fake tooth you're a cyborg. The percentage of artificial vs flesh is arbitrary, one could say a human with 100% of their body except 10% of their brain is still human and only a 100% machine with a consciousness implanted within is a cyborg, while others may say someone with just a robot hand is a full cyborg.
>>282315486>CG>cost cuttingYou understand nothing about anime production.
>>282317281>Sins isn't even a Casshern show; it has NOTHING to do with the original or the OVAs, the only thing it shares are the character designsIt explores the same themes ans asks the same questions>is it worth fighting for an already doomed world?
>>282323339So anime producted today are retro?
>>282325784Every anime produced these days is colored digitally. The animation can still be drawn with pencil on paper but they get scanned instead of using cells. If DVD quality is the best you have it's hard to tell how something was composed.
>>282323143For TV, everything before Tetsuwan (1963) is retro, everything after is contemporaryFor movies, everything before Taiyō no Ōji Horusu no Daibōken (1968) is retro, everything after is contemporary
>>282325847A lot of high profile anime today still have painted backgrounds on wood panels, later scanned.
>>282323143For me it's before digital production. So anything before the 2000s
>>282303951>>282302222Patlabor is so comfy
>>282326798This is pretty much how I consider it as well. I consider anything retro as cel animation. Once the full industry switch to digital I don't consider it retro
>>282325985But that's just the backgrounds. And it's only a small number compared to the mix of poorly filtered photographs, CGI and text-to-image models.
>>282327055>text-to-image modelswhat the fuck are you talking about
>>282295569no, I didn't vibe with this dude in SRW
>>282327081Models that generate an image from a text prompt. It's cheaper than 3D-CGI and is seeing increasing usage in anime production.
>>282327100He's saying ai in a retarded way
>>282327142Saying AI is the retard way.
I watched Arion and yeah let's just say I wasn't ready for how unhinged it was writing wise. Every 20 minutes or so there's a twist to propel forward the author's incestuous fetishes, nothing goes unsaid or implied, it's crazy. Don't want to spoil though. On the other hand, in spirit and intention, it might be one of the most faithful portrayals of greek mythos I've seen. No church lady has tampered with this one that's for sure. I'm a bit disappointed it was mostly het except for 15 blessed minutes but it's still a superb movie all around, where everyone is hot in a 80s way. I knew it inspired Fire Emblem1 (that's why I watched it) but the similarities with Gundam Zeta are also eerie.>same character designer, Yasuhiko Yoshikazu>athena has the same seiyu as ReccoaI fucking knew it.
>>282327277This is exactly what I thought when I watched it. I was thinking to myself 'is this just a zeta au?'Beyond that, I loved it thought. I didn't think I would enjoy the weird twists either. I never saw anyone mention it before. I was just checking out other series where yas directed.Apollo is stupid sexy though he made him hotter than the manga.Glad you enjoyed it as well. It's a good movie. The manga is a bit different but still just as good.
>>282327358>I didn't think I would enjoy the weird twists either.Yeah me never, but I liked Arion almost right away so if he wants to bang his sister you know what, I'll support him. He's too earnest and pure about it for me not to. Go get your woman short kingStill think it's a shame about Seneca's gender and I'm not sure how I feel about Athena having a sex drive but I loved her meltdowns so I forgive it.
>>282327358Also yes, Apollo is so fucking sexy it's a crime. Even if lore accurate.
man, these segments from Ai Monogatari were so varying in emotions. pic related was my favorite, so funny and cute.
>>282327471I loved it so much I hunted some cels of it and unfortunately with the fiasco in shipping they're delayed. But in the meantime I've been hunting down old merch . Apollo got an official figure if you can believe that. Made it of metal. The unfortunate part is because it wasn't the success at that time a lot of people didn't keep a lot of the old goods or purchase it in large quantities. I's been fun going through old nip catalogs for stuff.Arion had that likeable boyishness that yas tends to do really well. i wish they didn't do that Seneca as well but honestly I feel like it was a good twist? It would've been nice for it to not happen but if you patient that moment doesn't exist you can chalk it up to 'eh just the greeks'. I actually kind of liked that Athena was obsessed with her brother basically it kind of puts the themes of the show together and gives you a nice parallel between a wholesome versus toxic relationship.
>>282327494This is probably my favorite pick up that I actually got recently. It's so striking
>>282327598It's adorable, love it.>>282327570>It would've been nice for it to not happen but if you patient that moment doesn't exist you can chalk it up to 'eh just the greeks'.That's literally what I assumed kek but yeah I don't know I've seen it plenty of times it just seems a waste of a fun homo ship. Still love her character though, very charming. >I actually kind of liked that Athena was obsessed with her brother basically it kind of puts the themes of the show together and gives you a nice parallel between a wholesome versus toxic relationship.Yeah that's why I don't mind it too much. It was pretty fun to watch him refuse to perform incest at first in contrast to the MC. The alignements of the characters in general are pretty fun. It's never "i am good and therefore I only do good things". Ares beats up Arion in the beginning of the movie only to save Resphoina from rape and be killed by the MC. Who's a parricide AND a sister fucker btw. It was fun to watch how allegiances and morality jumped through hoops several times. Speaking of which, Prometheus was quite something too. Man. This fucking guy.
>>282328063>>282328063>Prometheus was quite something too. Man. This is why sometimes I think yas is homo or bi even. No man makes that hot of men unless they can pinpoint why men are hot Everyone is really good looking both the men and women serious top notch designs. And I really like that the manga only uses black and white and only occasionally uses Gray it's a really nice contrast compared to more recent series that tend to be more gray than black and white I really recommend reading it. I don't know if it's in English but if you can read nip it's not that hard of a read either. He does more showing than he does narrative. he'll switch to sort of a large narrative but then he'll go back to showing. I think it's pretty clever to keep your interest. As much as I wish it was a lot longer of a series, I think the movie and also the five volume manga series (although now it's compiled in to 4 books). Is just enough of a taste.I kind of wonder if he did that because he realized he wrote himself into a corner. Seneca doesn't seem to like being seen as a women as it's not like by revealing anything she changed the way she dressed or acted. Not did arion suddenly go 'oh wait? Nice I'll settle with you'. so it's not like it really matters to me I'll continue with my first impression but it was a great twist. Not something I expected.Well I mean.. Apollo only did that to kill Athena because he didn't seem to like her jealousy. Her penchant for 'war' can also be implied that she would ruin her own life much like how war does rather than see someone else happy. Apollo was just in it for pussy the whole time kek. Also I still think Apollo should've gotten railed by arion or Demetrius or both but that's just me.Seriously glad you enjoyed it!I'm pick a ton of arion stuff from the 80s so if you're ever around in the 801 mines I'll share it
>>282328344>Everyone is really good looking both the men and women serious top notch designs. Ikr I legit want a dress like Athena's now. >Well I mean.. I've been watching a lot more anime lately.I got really unreasonably annoyed when a guy I talk to said "Why are you watching so much naroushit (i.e., Zero no Tsukaima type anime), you should go back to watching 80s mecha anime", so I am now pressuring myself through every unwatched 80s mecha series, in order.Just watched "Space Emperor God Sigma". I was not shocked when it was a combination mecha in the same vein as Getter Robo. What was shocking was when the doctor character turned out to be actually insane instead of just insane (funny) like in the usual works, and he spends the last 15~ episodes of the show quietly seething that he can't torture aliens until he finally defects and dies.Like, the series flips a switch and just becomes a completely different work at times, and it's a shame that there is zero western discussion on it beyond "It's not as good as Robot Romance". Watching Baldios now, already 8 episodes in, very VOTOMS/Zeta where Sigma was very Getter/Mazinger. After that will be the 80s reboots- Tetsujin-28 and Tetsuwan Atom. Unfortunately, Cyborg 009's 80s reboot was actually 1979 so I had to skip it.Biggest shame is Trider G7 ONLY being subbed by those fucking Russian cunts, and so probably nobody will touch it. I've already seen Zambot and Daitarn, and it's the last in that trilogy (despite it lacking Tomino). Also crunched the numbers on my watch and it'll be about 1897~ episodes (counted movies as roughly 3~ episodes a piece). If I continue on my current pace, I will have seen every subbed "mecha" anime of the entire decade by around this time next year.
>>282336087Space Emperor God Sigma is one of the funniest mecha series names I've heard
>>282336132The best part is how, in classic toyetic mecha fashion, the name "Sigma" holds no real meaning whatsoever. And on the mecha itself, it has one of the ugliest combination designs I have seen in a combining mecha, the other two side mecha are basically irrelevant to the whole combination, they just become bigger legs- I guess there's the whole "combining energy" bit, but it really does just feel obligatory. Also, the aliens in the anime are a genuine military designing robots to fight the Sigma. The Sigma itself? It's basically glorified construction equipment that they just started fighting with. It's a really phoned in idea, feels like some shit Tomino would make up to get an anime approved, like he did for Ideon.

And the question it asked was more akin to:>do you keep doing the right thing, even though others will not thank you (or outright hate you) for it?Although what bugged me the most was that all the characters had different personalities and histories in Sins; they were essentially different characters wearing the skins of the original.

The second arc dragged because they were stuck in one place without an overarching plot or bad guy, and the location was a boring 'What if the dirty pair lived in modern Japan?" Contrivance. The third should have been the best but the stories they got into weren't as interesting, or as impressive as the kind the original dirty pair would get into.

>>282359182We are talking about anime in generalIf you want to narrow it down to big money production only it gets more granularAre we talking movie productions? Those are the only ones that really have substantially variable financial backing, TV series for the most part have the same budgets across the board, from the slop bottom of the barrel to the high quality series full of big names the amount of money poured per episode is almost the same everywhere
>>282359232i admit im biased toward movies and OVAs partly of the better production values, my beef is things like edgerunners where you have relatively fresh material and then they get the same old voice actors (even worse with the dub). Anytime the music is a fresh composition like in cells at work or how heavy are the dumbbells it's infinitely more enjoyable, they definitely don't have all original voice acting. I dunno im just burned out on the formula. old stuff feels fresher than new maybe because i havent heard those same voices in ten slops or maybe they couldnt just stitch together premade parts they often had teams recreate effects so each one has a bit of its own flavor
>>282359625>old stuff feels fresher than new maybe because i havent heard those same voices in ten slops or maybe they couldnt just stitch together premade parts they often had teams recreate effects so each one has a bit of its own flavorProbably you've seen a lot of modern day productions and very few old productions, and a limited, cherrypicked selected group at that.If you watch old stuff you'll find the same mostly applies about the industry at large
>>282288644Took me a rewatch but I agree. I liked it the first time, but other than some obviously great episodes I was too prejudiced against oldschool cartoony aspects to think it was anything much but kiddy. >>282360389>normies thought badly of itAre we talking about Japan? Japanese had very little reason to think badly about anime untill the late '90s when media made up scary stories for views, anime has always been mainstream entertainment in Japan since the end of WWII. If we're talking outside of Japan, almost everywhere but the USA started importing anime since the '70s and have been a mainstay in pop culture since then around the world, with bilions growing up loving them like anything normal around it>a 80s sweat shop so all the extra money goes into their pocketThis was always the case and always will be, since the '60s Japanese animators periodically have strikes and protests about how bad they're treated. Hell, in 1970 Toei almost collapsed 'cause the entirety of their animation division just gave up and threatened to leave immediately due to the horrible working conditions and low wages. There has never been a moment in anime history were the staff had a good, easy work life, this is 100% an industry driven by passion, everyone who works in anime (outside of the suits and corpos) is in there for love of anime, otherwise they would choose any other career>no cels or film to dick around withthis is a good thing, back in the day the work conditions were so tight that Sailor Moon animators had to buy extra cels and film with their own pocket money because Toei refused to pay anything more that the bare minimum and the staff wanted to have a better product, which is absurd to think about>photoshop and AI generated content, reused assets out the assagain, this is a passion driven industry, those things will not find footing in 99.9% of productions>still 15 fpsanime are not videogames, fps have nothing to do with animation quality>still shitty storyline, still same old tropesread the Greeks and you'll find the same shitty storylines and shitty tropes, humans loved the same shit since the dawn of time
