I don't think he's necessarily lying. There have been signs that this isn't the first time Yumezora has done this, what with her comparing herself to an insect that "falls in love" easily and the last major fight between her and her husband that lead to her and Gomi meeting in the first place.
It's more so that Gomi has been figuratively caught in his web and has no choice but to hear him out. Ugly bastard-san holds the cards right now and could have just ratted him out if he cared so much about fucking with Gomi and Yumezora. He could be a sore loser looking to blackmail them, but I don't think that's the whole of it. The way he talks makes me think he does have some amount of concern for Gomi. He wouldn't need to cook up some story about her prior affair if he just wanted to use either of them for his personal gain or pleasure.

I doubt that the ugly bastard is anything remotely approaching pure in his intentions, but there is a shred of concern being implied here. Maybe he does want to have sex with Yumezora, maybe he wants revenge, or maybe he is just trying to warn a misguided young colleague. Next chapter will probably reveal a lot more about his motives.

By comparison, the choking and striking seem far more tame. Gomi got over his initial revulsion toward himself within a single chapter and was huffing pads while beating his meat. You'd think that he would have gotten worse with time instead of pulling back. It'll only take the right push for him to start indulging himself in some weird play with or without Yumezora. If anything, this chapter's event may become the catalyst to break his grip on the idyllic image he holds in his head concerning Yumezora and the future he desires with her. Even if he doesn't totally believe Yoshihara, the seed of doubt will be planted and it'll cause Gomi's mentality toward her to shift further over time. He was already beginning to look toward the abuse she suffered as a means to grab on tighter, so all it will take is a small push for him to start truly admitting to himself what he wants.
When that time comes, I expect him to act out some weird shit.
