>>282310857The problem is part 1 was much smoother plot-wise. Every Arc built on itself and fleshed out the characters more and more, with the whole Gun devil mission tying them all together. Every arc pretty much killed off one major character and in the end the plot subverted with Makima finally becoming the main villain. Part 2 kind of tried to replicate those moments but didnt get them quite right. They didnt really introduce a bunch of characters we care about and kill them off one by one every arc. Their version of the gun devil plot thread doesn't work as well since you cant really build up to it every arc, you just have to wait for the plot to get there. Asa had a good bit of character development in the beginning but as soon as Denji gets brought back to the plot the Arcs lose that, things just start happening. There are too many villains, not enough memorable side characters, no Aki or Power equivalent or even a new Kobeni. Even the devil powers get recycled and reused too many times. Things just feel like they meander back and forth for the second half of the plot, like Fuji has no idea where to go with them. Idk, we got a bunch of cool moments but it doesn't feel as clean as part 1. Hopefully Fuji lands the ending but who knows.

Think back to part 1, you have Denji, Power, Aki, Kobeni, Himeno, Violence, Angel, Kishibe, etc. All of these characters on the "good guy" side of the story, who are endearing or interesting enough that we care what happens to them. In Part 2, everyone is either against Denji, or is grey enough that we don't build that strong of an atrachment. Realistically who did Denji have as an ally? Nayuta? Yoshida? Yoru is evil, Death is evil, Public Safety/Fumiko are evil, and most of the enemies we don't know enough about or are just not very compelling so when they die it doesn't really matter. Even one of his only possible allies Yoshida had a nothing death and no one really cares. I don't think he's setting up his characters properly, it really does feel like fire punch but worse
