There seems to be some sort of "fate" at play here. A powerful warrior/assassin like Serie's killer and Serie herself coming into contact seems to be how to the world deals with the "overpowered". They'll take each other out like a self-terminating equation without outside intervention and the world rolls on, with Frieren next in line to take Serie's place. Even the Shadow Warriors have accepted that the upper echelons are fated to die during this encounter and are already planning successors. Serie has basically accepted that she is fated to die but wants to spare her fate from her dear apprentices. However she won't actually die because of the scheming of Lineal, Fraise, Frieren, and potentially indirect intervention from the Goddess.

The enemy mastermind is 100% not a demon. There’s no demon anywhere at any time except the Demon King who has the juice to do what Serie is describing. If there was then Serie would have been DEAD a thousand years ago when the Demon King ordered the genocide of the Elves. It’s going to be a human or other elf.One interesting idea is that the future sight power being used by the enemy ISN’T a spell, but rather a holy ability from the Goddess. Maybe Kraft or some other character like what’s-his-face the priest had been endowed with some crazy prophecy skill by the Goddess that can trump Serie’s counter-vision magic. It could be that there’s a faction of the church which believes the world is being ruined by the overabundance of magic and Serie is the lynchpin of that system. Remember that throughout most of history, magic was a demon-only thing, and may still be viewed by some as a fundamentally evil force. I also like the idea of Kraft being involved because who else has the juice to take Serie out perfectly like this in all scenarios short of Serie running and hiding with all her might?
