I decided to check out what the Kokan english dub sounds like and can't say I'm a fan of the more goofy direction for it. Maybe it's more fitting being a parody and all, but I find the segment genuinely enthralling and the regular japanese voice actors do a great job of making it sound like a foreign language without hamming it up- makes it more 'authentic' in that way.

S1E1:>Excretion without Honor or HumanityIn retrospect this is a pretty weak first episode. It does its job or introducing the characters and setting, and I guess you can give it credit that at the time a crass and sexually promiscuous main female character was in itself shocking and novel, but there's really little here other than some sex and poop joke. It's a rare Imaishi solo script and it's easy to understand why he usually has other people do the writing. And despite being a full Imaishi an episode it feels meandering and stilted at times, his notorious pacing is nowhere to be seen.6/10>Death Race 2010This is much better. The sex jokes this time are elevated by the innuendos that go along with the speed theme of the episode, but the real attraction is obviously the action, that is excellently storyboarded, full of cool ideas and perfectly escalates as the episode progresses. The CGI still look impressive 15 years later, though the low resolution probably helps hiding the flaws.8/10

S1E2>The Turmoil of the BeehiveThis is a fine episode, but its downfall is that it's utterly overshadowed by Les Diaboliques, which hits all the same points (and more) a million times better. High school, social hierarchy, new students, popularity contest, fight on school ground, this is basically a test run for that episode. Or you could call it a setup, but I think they could have come up with something more distinct. The biggest weakness compared to Les Diaboliques is Barbi, that despite having a cool ghost design and concept, is a boring character they don't do much with. Even the montage where she loses popularity to the angel sisters isn't particularly funny not clever. The best scene in the episode is unrelated to the plot, and it's when they make fun of American sex ed.7/10>Sex and the Daten CityFirst episode about the sisters' contrasting personalities and relationship, sort of, with an emphasis on their worst traits. Not much to say about the episode itself other than it's consistently funny and engaging, I will say though that I didn't remember season 1 too well and especially how catty Stocking used to be. She even fucking destroys her cat plushie in this episode in fit of rage. Those who claimed that they made her more moe and nonthreatening in season 2 are absolutely correct.8/10
