There was an old british tv channel called AnimeCentral that only aired from 9pm-6am, I would sometimes sneak into the living room after my parents went to bed late at night, and I stumbled across it while looking for porn. I watched a few episodes of FMA, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Wolfs Rain and Escaflowne.
Other than that I think the first anime I watched in Full was .hack//SIGN on my Wii's internet browser with episodes split into parts on youtube

Silver Fang: The Shooting Star Gin. For some bizarre reason it was distributed VHS here and everyone seemed to own a few of them. I guess the license was cheap and the person in charge of distribution just thought it was cartoon animals and didn't look into it any further, because that shit was way more violent than any other cartoon at the time.

When I was a kid I would fall asleep with the TV on, specifically to Cartoon Network. I was already exposed to vocaloids and some weeb stuff online but I was too nervous to watch.
One night I woke up around 5AM to the 3rd and 4th episodes of Inuyasha and I really enjoyed it. I remember trying to look it up later on and watch more, but I never did.
I specifically remember that morning because it was right after the massive hurricane that destroyed the east coast as well as my parents just got done fighting. I specifically remember the dark cloudy skies, which I now often see in my dreams.
Ironically this wasn't really the "first" anime I remember the ending to the 23rd episode of Cowboy Bebop, and it stuck with me.

>Cowboy Bebop

>Inuyasha
aired at night, and despite their english dubs, it's what planted the seed for me to enjoy anime as a medium years later. Ghost in the Shell in particular became my all time favorite series, even though it's not a faithful adaptation of the manga, it's just fucking fantastic. That jet fighter flyby at the end of 2nd GIG still gives me goosebumps. I still haven't revisited Naruto or Inuyasha because I'd prefer to keep my positive memories as a kid watching them. first anime i binge watched was Ruroni Kenshin on a ton of bootleg dvd's my sister's boyfriend made for me.
>>
My first contact with anime... it was with my country chose to broadcast, so mazinger Z, 80's astroboy (brutal stuff),sandy belle, bell and sebastian, remy, candy candy, saint seiya, millenium princess, and macross in its Robotech "form", heck I didnt even knew that it was called anime.
My earliest memory in my weeb journey, was when I realized I liked more the type of animation that ahd a story that was told in several episodes, unlike american cartoons, where most of the time, each chapter were self contained , and everytime the baddie in turn escaped again.

To this day, I member 80's astroboy left some mental scars in the young me, like that episode in which a spaceship ahd an accident, shit happens, they have to do an emergency landing, and then more shit happens, but a eveil mand was let in the moon with an OCD ridden robot, it wasnt explicitly told, but the man left in the moon, most likely would be dead in a matter of days... or the episode astro's first love... or the episode that had references to romeo and juliet, 2 robots fell in love , but they were from rival race teams, and they end dying, but they melt together because of a fire. jeeebus, that stuff was really something else.

I guess technically Pokemon or Naruto
First one I watched knowing it was anime was probably Rurouni Kenshin. I watched it via sequential 10 minute parts on youtube.

Pokemon, but I didn't even know what Anime was at that point. Same with Naruto, I just thought it's a cartoon. I think the first actual anime I watched was Inuyasha, my cousin showed it to me and it was in Japanese. I was probably 5.

Cowboy Bebop in 2014, then Studio Ghibli movies in early 2015.
Then that kicked off me watching my first wave of shows for the rest of 2015

Sailor Moon.
I watched it in primary school and thought I'd get bullied for watching a "girl's show" if I told anyone I liked it. Turns out everyone liked it. Back then every piece of media out of Japan was referred to as "manga" in my country.

My favorite senshi is Sailor Jupiter because she has the biggest...talent

Most of these are excellent shows except Watatmote and Steins;Gate. Must've been a nice run to get into anime as a medium.

Either Pokemon or Dragonball Z. Back then, I didn't know what an anime was, and I didn't think it was any different from the American cartoons I used to watch.

The first anime I watched knowing that it was anime was UFO baby or Daa! Daa! Daa!

4kids stuff then toonami stuff (.hack//SIGN)
>>
Pokemon, though I didn't know it was anime when I was like 3

Based, also I fucking knew Tsubasa was a chick from the first episode, they literally fucking show her, I don't get how people were confused.
>>
>>282327165
Guess it'd be DBZ back in the toonami days. That was a gateway drug for everyone, you watched it and that was it or you went down the rabbit hole.

Depdnding on what you count anime, Pokemon or Yugioh

It was either an episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, or it was part of an episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Was exposed to both around the same time. Shortly thereafter I also saw a tiny bit of FLCL. All dubbed, on whatever American cable network that was showing those back then in 2005 or 2006 or something like that.
I remember the episode of NGE that was my first experience of that show. It was the thermal expansion one, and I just saw the bit at the end with the volcano fight and hot springs. Anyway, I thought that was weird and didn't seek out watching NGE properly until a few years later. I don't remember what GITS:SAC episode I first saw a part of, I mostly just remember I saw the 3D CGI OP.
The first anime I properly watched, in a deliberate fashion, was GITS:SAC/2nd Gig. After that, I asked a friend who knew about anime what else I should see. Ended up watching NGE, Death Note, Elfen Lied, and Cowboy Bebop after that, probably in that order but I forget now. Then I basically stopped. I didn't get into anime properly until years after that.
Thanks to a meme on 4chan on another board I checked out Mitsuboshi Colors which was my first subbed anime, because I didn't know there was even a dub of that and at any rate couldn't find a dub at the time. Because of that show, I felt more confident about checking out other shows that were subbed, and then started watching tons of random SoL series. My whole world opened up once I realized I could handle subs. I also watch a ton of other live action foreign media now because of that, from all sorts of countries and languages. If anything seems kinda interesting I just start watching it now be it anime or anything else.

Hamtaro was also my first ever anime, then it was pokemon and sailor moon from what I can remember.

First knowing it was anime?
Inuyasha. Luv mellowdrama and romance.
First seeking it outside of Adult Swim?
Love Hina. Remembered and realized that that trashy Love Hina date sim on New Grounds was anime and went out of my way to watch it in 2006 via "PART 1 OF 3" on youtube.
First physical DVD box set purchase?
Ai Yori Aoshi. Torrented it in 2007, and found it at a local used media store. I was blown away that they would ever have something like that given it wasn't very popular (but popular enough to get a dub apperently) and had my friend who liked anime run a distraction so my normie friend who was with us wouldn't see me buying the box set with this art. The other one I got, the first season, was a bit more tame.

>wait its kinda comfy
>he closes out of it and logs off
>I spend the rest of the night watching the whole thing from the start

>start replaying it for days so the warmth never leaves
>eventually sought out other shows to gain a similar but fresh feeling
