What is the best codec to encode anime BD releases? >H264 8-bit>H264 hi10p Level 5.2 >HEVC>AV1
just normal H264 so I don't have to listen to my PC overheating and fans in overdrive while just trying to watch an anime and relax
>>282380701>imagine buying BDplay DVDs on a CRT TV
>>282380790Not problem for me. Buy better PC. Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 4080 Super combo is way to go for bare minimum.
>>282380701any modern codec is fine as long as the bitrate isn't too low.
>>282380701Remux or disc rips, any of those codecs are good enough for poorfags.>>282380790$100 SBCs with a 6W processor can decode x265 4K HDR rajesh.
>>282380701I have never noticed a difference caused by video encoding. Whatever it gets uploaded with is what I watch.
>>282380701HEVC for anime without grainH264 for anime with grain
>>282380701>av1it's a meme codec, it looks blurry as fuck and is not worth the effort
>>282380701>H264 8-bitWhy would you use 8-bit H264 in 2025?>H264 hi10p Level 5.2Try Level 4.1. Acceptable otherwise.>HEVCMature enough to beat H264 in every conceivable quality metric nowadays. The ideal choice.>AV1Give it a few years. Impressive efficiency and file sizes, but not great for encoding at high bitrates. Quality also depends heavily on the encoder used (e.g. aomenc vs svt-av1-psy).
>>282383194lies. and you can get grain even with uncompressed AVI, morans.
How come Anime groups dont nuke this shit out of each other? There seems to be like 10 different conversions for evey episode. Only additional subtitles or audio tracks would make a new release valid under scene rules.
>>282380701AV1 for quality/size. People say HEVC does better at higher bitrates, but why on Earth would you not go lossless if you're at the point where size doesn't matter? I have not seen this HEVC claim be the case, although I don't encode lossless. People just throw it around. Always encode on CPU, btw. Unless you need something ASAP.
>>282385023>scene rulesAnime groups aren't retarded.
>>282385023>>282385099>scene anythingScene rules are retarded. The only thing scene beats P2P on these days is how fast they pre shows.>>282385087Because lossless encoding entails an exponential increase in file size.
Diaz thread
>>282380790Noctua fans are the best
>>282380701H264 for compatibilityAV1 for casual watchingRAW for preservationHEVC is a meme
>thinly veiled /g/ threadOK, which iGPU can do 1080p anime with mpv high quality settings and smooth motion?
>>282385749RTX5090 minimum
>>282386285What? My ancient RX580 can do it without breaking a sweat.
>>282385749any AMD CPU that is from zen 4 and newer which has an iGPU
>>282385749Literally anything built in the last 10 years. I don't think people even test 1080p decoding performance nowadays.
>>282380790Maybe get a PC from this decade.
>>282387884The thing is not about decoding, but rendering. When I tested with some older Vega iGPU it was too slow.I need to output to a 4K screen, by the way.
>>282380701>encode BDMV is the name of the game.
Who the fuck is still using H264 over H265?
>>282388369Boomers and poorfags (I have to re-encode a bunch of films for my old man because he can't be bothered to only download H264 releases, but refuses to use anything except his old Bluray player, and can't figure out Handbrake on his own)
>>282381477I also love Ryzen® 7 9800X3D and RTX™ 4080 and always buy the latest ones from the official stores.
>>282380701HEVC. AV1 is not there yet. H264 is bloated filesize with worse image quality and only used by extreme poorfags.
