I just got caught up to Miura's last chapter of Berserk (latefag). Why did he waste so much time pacing the second half of the series like that? Golden Age was a masterpiece in pacing. Why not employ that style of writing for the rest of the series?
Making a very detailed manga sucks up your time and soul so much that you get burned out quite often. Should've left it to his assistants but nip pride doesn't arrow such a very dishonoraburu thing
>>282392324Cause it was a flashback. Early Black swordsman and everything after GA is paced at slow speed.
Because it's different. "Pacing" doesn't exist in a vaccum and depends on what it is you're trying to tell and thus the pace in which you do so also is determined by that.
>>282392324>just keep writing on the level of one of the best arcs of manga history bro
>>282392324I dropped Berserk around the time they arrived at some port town and Serpico wanted to duel Guts or whatever, I might be remembering that wrong, it was years ago. I'm actually rewatching the 97 anime right now, and its making me want to reread the manga in its entirety. The thing is with Berserk though, is that the whole story revolves around the Golden Age arc. That arc, as a self-contained story, is a masterpiece in character drama. You have a few key archetypal characters, a nice cast of background characters, very clear motivations for all the key characters, and the entire story of the Band of the Hawk's rise and fall, and specifically Griffth's role as it's leader, is a perfect tragedy. I would go as far as to call it "Shakespearean" and not just because it has a medieval setting. And yes the pacing is great. Everything Berserk is about is encapsulated in that story arc. Miura wrote Berserk to tell that story specifically (and to explain who the Black Swordsman from the beginning is). The problem with Berserk is that everything afterwards is a kind of afterthought. It has its moments (Lost Children, etc) but ultimately none of it expands on the themes already explored in the GA arc and, although Guts does heal and change somewhat over time, you can basically some up his entire character afterwards as a guy with ptsd choosing to struggle against the odds to protect someone dear to him. Once he was done with GA, Berserk was this open ended story that he could drag out for as long as possible, with as many filler arcs as he wants, but everyone knows that at some point, Guts will confront Griffith one final time. It's kind of just meandering to that end point, and Miura was enjoying the world and the characters enough to keep it going, bu he didn't want to say goodbye to them. And then he died before he could finish it himself, but I dont blame the guy. Having more of a good thing isn't necessarily bad.
>>282392324I can see what he was going for in Millennium Falcon and Fantasia. It was all about dual narratives and building to the endgame. None of this would make sense if we didn't see Griffith's perspective. It holds up better on a re-read but fucking hell the release schedule at the time was ridiculous.I remember being utterly baffled at the placement of the Chich flashback, but it holds up well now.
>>282392324It took them literally years to get off that boat, it was even a meme
>>282394407The group boarded the Seahorse in chapter 278, which was officially released on December 5, 2007. They reached Elfheim in chapter 342, which was officially released on June 24, 2016. So the trip to Elfheim took 8 years, 6 months, and 18 days.
>>282394432Didn't they get off the boat to go to Ismas island for like 2 volumes
>>282392324I blame Idolm@s
>>282394496Chi-tan's flat chest is simply VERY powerful.
>>282394874Was she Miura's favorite, because she was mine.
>>282392324>Why did he waste so much time pacing the second half of the series like that? Golden Age was a masterpiece in pacing. Why not employ that style of writing for the rest of the series? He was a hack mangaka who had this luck of being able to release new chapters very rarely and obsessively focus on irrelevant details instead of making good storyboards.
>>282392862Cheap excuse, given how other authors were, are, and will be able to reach similar level of details, or even better, and retain regular release schedule.
>>282394463The pacing itself wasn't bad in this part of the Fantasia arc. It was the release schedule. You can make even the shortest sub-story arc tiresome, dull and outright unnecessary if you make new chapters fairly rarely.
>>282392324He loved his manga and put all his effort in making it great at first, then if you didnt plan the ending from the start or all the chapters, then you are gonna fall in mental blocking but your editor and your fans are looking for more every month, so you lost yourlife and time trying to came with something, then you find an awesome game get addicted and just write anything so you can play your game in peace.
I'm so fucking tired of Golden Age fags.
I fap to the Lost Children arch every once in a while.
>>282392324Sex with Griffith.
>>282392324He ran out of material to plagiarize when the golden age ended and didn't know what to do but kept going due to Berserk's popularity.
>>282396173I'll drink to that
Miura was easily distracted and liked to explore new ideas as they came rather work on a tight story structure. The Sea God arc was essentially filler but he wanted to do it because he liked Cthulu and mermaid lolis.
>>282396195>Berserks popularity >Berserk>Popular Lmao.
>>282396195Berkfags will call picrel "homage" or "influence", just as they call a guy with a longsword "Berserk reference".
>>282396172Tell me more
>>282396891Is this a single digit IQ post implying if a manga isn't on par with Dragon Ball it isn't popular? Berserk is one of the primary serializations in the magazine that publishes it.
>>282396994Yes anon, this is all completely aesthetic - Berserk borrows absolutely fuck all from The Evil Dead for its narrative.
>>282397039Jill has the sexiest collarbones.
tfw some Berkians are still delusional and think that nu-Berserk could've been great if Miura had not kicked the bucket
>>282392324I heard the assistants are about to finish the manga, but did Murata left some notes about the ending?
>>282392324Agreed
