kinda weird how the western anime fanbase fondly remembers some 80s classics but not others. you see threads about sakigake otokojuku but almost never about kochikame

Is Kochikame even translated to any major extent? It's infinite and hard to translate because of all the jokes. It had some dubs (turkish? arabic?) back in the day so probably more recognized in those regions.

There was a hindi sub, Indian boomers are the only ones besides Japs I’ve seen like and discuss Kochikame

I fucking love Kochikame and I watch it all the time. My favorite episode is the one where the motorcycle cop (forgot his name) goes on dates with the girl he likes but he has to be on his bike the whole time so he looks cool. Absolutely fucking hilarious.

I also like the one where Ryotsu discovers that his childhood friend became a Yakuza and is running from the police.

Kochikame has been getting officially subbed for a few months now on youtube
Currently at Episode 50

Seems like they've just stalled at Episode 50, but that's still 50 more episodes than anyone ever expected to get subbed.

It had a spanish dub (spain) for the first 203 episodes, but honestly, I've never met a spaniard who knows the series, even though I've come across it on TV a few times. Shin chan, Doraemon, Detective Conan, etc. were very popular, but I've never heard anyone talk about Kochikame in my life.

I agree, the 80s/90s pre-internet vibe is really comfy and Ryotsu manages to be both sympathetic (because of how hard he grinds) and scumbag-ish (because of how often he screws others over) in equal measures

>motorcycle cop (forgot his name)
How can you forget his name, it's literally Honda after the japanese bike company lol
