In order to defeat the madman Randou whose base lies the Arctic, a new team of Getter Robo pilots is formed, piloting a new form of Getter Robo which runs on simple plasma energy. Nagai came up with a concept of three cars combining to create three forms after he and Dynamic Pro had a three car fender bender after a night of drinking. All of the development sketches and test manga pages are available in Getter Robo Bible. There is a reason why in Japan it's called a media mix project when usually it would be called a comicalization or animeka.
