The severance was already done and it's now going to be reversed thanks to the gang rescuing Aoi.
What they're talking about (if I'm remembering the manga correctly, I didn't watch the anime) is what will happen if all seven yorishiros are ripped off. So far, Mysteries 2, 5, and 4 have lost their yorishiros and the third Mystery is fucking dead, which leaves us with only Mystery 6 (the shinigami the gang's currently facing), Mystery 1 (the Clock Keepers), and Mystery 7 (Hanako-kun himself). What's about to happen is the collapse of Mystery 6's boundary, and so Mystery 6's yorishiro (Sumire herself) has to be dealt with in order for everyone to leave the boundary.

So if I'm understanding correctly, the god that the village was sacrificing their girls to in exchange for granting their wishes is the entity in the Red House that's possessing Tsukasa. It's sealed away by the yorishiros of the seven mysteries and its goal is to break them so it can be free. It's probably also the source of the powers of the seven mysteries. That would explain the line about the seven being more like gods than apparitions, why Tsukasa's powers are similar to Hanako's and how he easily killed the third mystery even though they're supposed to be invincible in their own boundaries, and Hanako's rumor being about granting wishes since the entity is a wish granting god.

Maybe but Aoi is the one Akane wants most of the audience wants and the Akane x Aoi ship. Aoi also feels like the kind of girl who's more relatable to and liked by the female audience than the male audience. It is impressive that the nerdy-looking simp ended up being the character with the fangirls going crazy over him and rooting for him.
