I'm pretty confident he's just gonna lose the match. It makes his coach a rival going forwards, it's about time he takes a loss since he can't just win every match, and it'll give him a reason to train and work harder now that he's stepped into a higher rank.

That hasn't happened, obviously, and we literally just had a new batch finish debuting last week, so it's not likely to happen soon either. It's only concerning if Taira ends up winning the match.
Taira is going to get his first loss. Then the second one will mark the beginning of the final arc.
