Like, you come to a serious piano competition and deliver a technically flawless performance of some standard classical piece with no extra spice to it and you're probably not going to win because there's thousands of 12 year old chinese boys who can already do that.

A plain but flawless performance can be exceptional if it's difficult enough that the flawlessness is itself exceptional, but otherwise, as I said, Asian kids who've been whipped into perfect but otherwise unnoteworthy execution are a dime a dozen.
This is pure nonsense.If you gave a 10/10 script to a 1/10 actor chances are the script is gonna fall flat. And in the same way, a 10/10 actor can't savage a 0/10 script no matter how hard he tries because at the end of the day there's only so much an actor can do to manipulate its public.
