As a 34yo incel, reading Japanese romance mangas, usually about high school students, start out nice (sometimes) but always turns sour and I just hate-skim over the remaining chapters looking for flaws in the female characters (like the girl being a tsundere - seriously fuck tsunderes, this trope is shit it's usually just socially accepted soft-abuse of the MC) while stewing in my own anger.These women don't exist. Real women do not act like this. I continue to ask myself why this stuff gets made when it's so obviously fake, and not even sluts want to give me irl attention let alone these near-perfect caricatures. I missed out on all this stuff. I'm inexperienced myself so the only people I can relate to are literal teenagers because I'm basically an enormous manchild myself. If I go and read a "mature" series about college or career romance, it's just more jaded interactions and more sex. I miss when during my 20s I didn't even think of this stuff at all and was basically an enormous shounentard.
Because nearly every male-oriented romance manga was written by someone who never actually experienced love or even had friends back in school.
while I hate the characters behavior in a lot of romance adjacent manga they're typically using the sexual interest as a tool to get different personalities interacting wiht each other for drama or comedy
Think to yourself why you're drawing a line between teenagers with super powers and what you dislike about romance manga. And why one being obviously fantasy is different from the other being obviously fantasy.
