Isn’t it weird how completely insignificant Umineko is in Japan, yet it’s a cult phenomenon in the West?
>>282470428It's insignificant in the West as well

Would Rosa approve?
>>282470428It's steeped in allusions to old western works and other elements that make it palatable to the west, right down to the majority of the characters having Westaboo names. The western WTC community having its origins in Higurashi anime fans rather than the general VN community also means that it wasn't as affected by the netouyo outrage bandwagon culture as Type Moon's fanbase was, so while the west was aware of the Japanese reactions to Umineko, it didn't internalize them as gospel like communities like /b/ and Beast's Lair did, and wasn't afraid to point out where they were full of shit (evil Battler being a major theory on their side showed just how smooth-brained they could be). It also helped that the manga adaptation changing things to make things clearer let western fans re-examine and appreciate the later arcs more while also serving as an entry point to recommend to new fans, while the Japanese fans mostly remained stuck in their mindless hate bandwagon ways.
>>282470428Not being huge as Higurashi doesn't make it insignificant.
>>282472069>implying she cares about anything Maria does
>>282470428Some trannies who didn't even read the VN putting Sayo as their profile picture doesnt make it any more relevant. At least Higurashi was known as the quintessential edgy anime alongside Elfen Lied back in 2006-2014.
