The main point of the show was resolving Shinji's insecurity and self hatred.There are other plot threads and character arcs unresolved, but you have EoE for that. I don't get this bitching when nearly all of west, aside from a very niche section, watched Evangelion after the show and EoE had already been released.

Does Gendo reunite with Yuri? And like those a dozen more. It's not respectful towards the effort the audience has put in the series. The movie fixes this, but people didn't knw there would be a movie when the series ended originally.

Because literally every single plot thread was unresolved besides Shinji's own personal issues. Asuka is rotting away in a hospital, Rei is becoming more and more of this unnerving inhuman being, and Gendo is plotting some sort of grand scheme against SEELE.
