If it's a battle royale in the forest maybe it could at least feel like the final arc in Flame of Recca which had many returning characters come back for a final fight with some deaths and a couple ENTER moments

Mukaku inventing the Niko Style and continuing to develop it is a form of "scaling the wall" because it's a series of developments he came up with by compiling everything he knew, incorporating outside ideas, and tailoring it to what he thought he'd need to beat Shen. Just because he didn't figure out a few specific tricks doesn't mean he wasn't growing. His obsession toward killing Shen and the various directions he took to reach toward that end are implied to have distracted from perfecting his martial arts. It's not that he gave up on martial arts for traps, weapons, and drugs, but rather that he cared more about the end of killing Shen than he did about martial arts perfection.

He could have actually been very engaging, but Sandro made him too much a gag character. There's no hook to his character. He doesn't take much of anything seriously, it's baffling he's the leader of any kind of organization. He actively hurts the plot. Worst of all, he doesn't have a martial art style. There's not even any kind of personality in how he fights, he just vaguely does everything correctly and at max power. He doesn't do anything other than eat, drink and slap people.
