In the chapter Ezzo and Roswaal have a very high level discourse around what magic is theoretically possible. They have models of magic so powerful and accurate that the models can be successfully extrapolated to 6-attribute spells, despite nobody even doing a 5-attribute spell. I think if society's understanding of magic was that advanced, its science would also be quite advanced. Somebody would have the bright idea to take this incredibly effective truth-discovering procedure that magicians have employed, and transpose it onto other disciplines.Though I guess Vollachia did have those trains so maybe science is actually decent. There is also lots of metia, which maybe do use physics.Also the two only give a qualitative treatment of the 5 and 6-fold spells but I feel like you would also need a quantitative treatment.
