>>282522257If Light was right, then what he was doing wasn't anything that couldn't have been done by a normal government (or set of governments). The issue wasn't that nobody deserves to die (obviously some do), but that police zero in on people and railroad them into false convictions all the time. The reliability of police also varies across cultures and local political issues (think #MeToo), making the international scope of the thing even less effective. Moreover, medieval justice systems showed that "over convict so you for sure get all the criminals" doesn't actually work, because it just creates an environment where what you do doesn't strongly correlate with what happens to you, so even ordinary people have no reason not to just go "fuck it." It could also lead to a situation where criminals change up their methods to strongly prioritize avoiding detection, likely killing and and all potential witnesses to avoid having their face or name revealed. But who's right ultimately doesn't matter anyways; being a good person is different from being a good protagonist, and Death Note is as good as it is because you get to see both perspectives, instead of having the peep be revealed only at the end.
