In Texas, where everything is bigger, 1 city block is roughly the size of three city blocks.
It causes some confusion on math tests where 1=3 but so far there have been no issues.
You can also use 1 cb (city block) = 10 scb (smaller city blocks).

I can't find it, but there was a translation for a Naruto chapter that was at the end of the final Sasuke fight (698), where they didn't translate "usuratonkachi" with a paragraph long note about symbolism or some shit.

>>

That's what Sasuke used to call Naruto back in the day, there's no way to translate it and make readers recognize it as a callback when there's never been a consistent translation of the word you can use.
>>
>>282541899
So, the "nakama means nakama and not friends" approach?
>>
>>282541990
There's no need for all that, the readers would've gotten it since Sasuke admitted defeat and even shed a tear. And I really doubt that demographic of people watched pre-timeskip Naruto subbed to even pick on that.

I think I get it
Since these people would rather have their anime subbed than dubbed, they’re trying to replicate the experience in manga
So they “sub” it (keep Japanese as romaji and add translator notes) instead of “dubbing” it (replacing the Japanese with English)

Too lazy to find it online or take a picture, but in Wan Piss Ace originally has the manji version of the Whitebeard logo as a tattoo, and VIZ says "this is an ancient symbol, not a swastika."

MANY such cases. It baffles me how translators still get stumbled by this. I was reading this one manga set in high school where this guy named Suwa talked really infantile, referring to himself as "Suwa-kun" the whole time. Thing is, the TL entirely left that out and made him talk normally. So when it got to the last volume and one of the characters starts yelling at Suwa for acting that way, the TL had to include a note explaining it all

A combination of both of these made early translations for Girls und Panzer a little odd; in the beginning of the show there's a plush line called Boko that the main girl likes. It isn't very important so they changed the name to "Punchy" (which is fine and more organic for a stupid background thing), but by the first movie and in the OVAs after it's a big part of her relationship with another major character so it made more sense to go back to his Japanese name.
