I'm including jiraiya in the rain in the arc bc it's such a necessary extension of those themes (pain finally appears and his powers actually kill a fan favorite who's one of only characters who is both strong and hasn't fought hard yet).i do get disliking the ending for essentially retconning the consequential events and changing the in universe rules, but i do think nagato and naruto's character growth is pretty firmly in line with the trajectory the show laid out, even if the actions are a bit excessive

>>282528237yeah, i agree with those takes, was pissed the first time i saw it. they should've at least hinted at the possible powers of rinnegan if they wanted to pull that big a stunt, but that would require kishi thinking aheadthey had already shown tobi was 'madara', and it was p clear tobi was Obito, so there was at least some possibility of revival (or else that obito just survived on his own and claimed the name of a dead guy, which doesn't track w the literal first scene of Shippuden introducing the idea that madara and Sasuke have a connection), but i still don't think it was planned enough. kinda like edo tensei: maybe not a bad idea, but introduced half baked and justified post facto. still the jiraiya pain and Naruto arriving in sage mode and actually being strong enough to fight the chief antagonist characters are pretty strong moments
