I feel that Imaishi's work ethic was partially ruined by the age of streaming. In the old days he used to get to the finale with the deadline pending and he gave it his all to get the episode finished as best as he could and as close as possible to the airing date, there are famous stories of them delivering the disc to the TV station with the ink still fresh. Nowadays it all has to be finished months in advance for the dubbing in 100 languages to be done, so I feel that at some point he just says "eh good enough" and delivers it. The finale of both this and Edgerunners really didn't have the level of animation and direction that you'd expect from the climax of the series, like half of the episodes this season looked better than this.
I’m starting to like the finale less the more I think about, this season was not bad at all though. I prefer season 1 overall but this was a shockingly faithful return.
