A passing thought I had at one point before the finale aired was an ending where Panty becomes the new Ruler of Heaven, but only after losing someone close to her in the final battle. Maybe Stocking or Brief? Either way, it'd be a death that left Panty feeling empty even if she had everything she wanted. Probably way too much of a downer ending for PSG though.
