Why do we love this series so much even though we hate it?

I enjoyed it but it's garbage

Nostalgia. When I think of Naruto and reflect on how it all went to shit post-Pain and how Boruto is a further smear on its legacy, I get annoyed. But I also remember how much my friends and I loved it growing up. How kids you'd never suspect even watched an anime were closet Naruto fans that couldn't hold back anymore when Naruto vs Sasuke was airing on Toonami and talked about it in the cafeteria like it was a PPV boxing match.
While there are obviously better anime, none will ever give me bonding experiences like that again now that I've become a miserable adult barely capable of experiencing joy.

Not nostalgia for me
I actually only read the whole thing a few years ago
"That was fun, but it's also kinda shit"

I enjoy naruto aesthetically, you can dismantle the work as a whole and still have a lot of interesting bits, from the character and village designs to the ost. I straight up won't read or watch the war arc again or anything after but the rest of it tickles my brain for how many things could have happened but didn't.

i only watched the fan cut of Naruto and just unapolagetically love it. Most of the characters have good motivations and take rational actions, and the ones that don't act rationally have a good explanation for why they don't. Some of the fights are peak shounen with interesting tactics and excellent stage usage.

>Most of the characters have good motivations and take rational actions
PFFFFFFFFFT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>
>>282537795
Do you have any counterexamples?
>>
>>282537814
Naruto and Sakura.
>>
>>282537814
even when Sasuke is openly threatening to nuke the village (and has the capacity to do it) Naruto still tries to pull the "you're my friend, just come home" schtick
>>
>>282537842
That's because Naruto believes in people no matter what. He decides that bringing Sasuke back is more important to him than anything, even his own life. Naruto also saw what happened between Jiraiya and Orochimaru and intentionally holds onto the innocent side of himself. That's where Naruto's moral strength as a hero comes from. Like i said, when they don't act rationally there's a good explanation for why they don't.
>>282537823
I'm hinatapilled so im happy to dogpile sakura with you.
>>
>>282537926
and the only reason it works out is because of plot armour. Sasuke has zero reason to ever humour Naruto's delusions, and the story had to pull blatant bullshit in the end to have him pull a 180° on everything he believed in.
>>
>>282538016
Sasuke's personality is firmly established after his first fight with naruto though. He ends up not killing him when he has the final chance. Sasuke loves Naruto deep down.
>>
>>282538091
because he hadn't trained with Orochimaru for 3 years yet. when they meet again, Sasuke doesn't hesitate and goes in for the kill on both him and Sakura several times through Shippuden. Not to mention the fact he goes from wanting to spare civilians to having zero qualms outright butchering them for getting in his way. the entire narrative purpose of Karin being in his little Akatsuki group is so Kishi could beat the audience over the head with her commentary on how he gets progressively colder and more ruthless in the wake of Itachi's death. Somehow, you still managed to miss it
>>
>>282538135
not even anon but yeah man, the angry teenager goes in for the kill, enters the psyche of his only friend, and sees the literal embodiment of chaos, who tells him not to kill that friend... no surprise he didn't kill him in that moment

whole point of the character is how badly being hurt, even if the antagonist wasn't evil (itachi), can push one to act. Naruto is the mirror image, being someone who responded to that by wanting to be loved, and reacting positively to that. Sasuke gets everything he wanted and each time ends up more miserable, till at the end he's literally the so6p and still can't beat the powerlessness of giving in to hate, and realizes it's stupid to pretend you need to give in

it's a genuinely retarded show, but you managed to miss the fucking message for faggy teens. if your issue is 'waah sasuke is dumb', that's the point. you're dumber for not getting that, man
>>
>>282539490
my issue is that Sasuke decides to give up on his hate for a totally arbitrary reason in the last half-dozen chapters, after spending literal years feeding into it. it's bad writing, no matter how you slice it.
>>
It's always been the gold standard of shit taste and status quo. If you like Naruto, you can't think or act for yourself.
>>
>>282539975
What if I know it's shit and I hate how shit it is but I enjoyed it anyways
>>

Just like SnK, it was a good series until it collapsed on itself.
Unlike SnK , it went shit far before the ending (something like 5-7 years before of that) so the people weren’t deluding themselves the final arc was anything else but a fun slop.
Still it reached “so bad so good” level and it didn’t destroyed its own story and build up, so people remember it more more fondly despite of how shitty the whole “War” arc was.
Also Madara was Senator Armstrong level of entertaining villain
>>
>>282539975
imagine saying that to me, the foremost in thinking and acting for myself
>>
>>282540580
war was bad, but at least you get some killer b shenanigans, naruto hanging with the other beasts, and the hashirama/madara retelling arc. plus madara is funny as hell and, while stupidly written, Obito is pretty fun as an enemy when he finally starts fighting

biggest issue is that it's like 200 eps. condensed into like 65, which is still cartoonishly long, and it might've been ok. then if you really want the Otsutsuki stuff you can just make that its own separate section of the show, instead of introducing god and killing her in like 10 episodes
>>
>>282539975
it's contrarianism to say something is bad simply because it's popular. There are absolutely parts of Naruto that are entertaining and fun, and you cannot sit there and pretend that the art design isn't top notch and that you wouldn't love to live in that world.

it's also just pleasant and optimistic. when you're depressed it can feel nice to binge a stupid show that you can passively indulge in that tells you love triumphs and belief will let you work to solve things

i mostly just read when watching this kind of thing and go on and off at the parts that I remember enjoying or that pulls me in. not everything that's not perfect is bad
>>
>>282535661
It's one of the best long-running shounen with solid world building, character diversity, and an excellent soundtrack. Also the animation is never really too bad from what I remember.

at the end of the day, it's battle shonen. No different from the likes of One Piece, HxH, Bleach, YYH, and a dozen other series. it's meant to be simple fun and "hype" for 13 year old boys.
