Why do people suck off Stand Alone Complex constantly?
>only seen the movie
>decide to watch STC after rewatching the movie
>complete tonal shift
>awful 3DCD on basically anything mechanical
>major dresses like a street whore
>art is a huge step down, understandable quality would take a dump compared to a movie but why are all the designs so shit now?
>everything is mediocre at best: sound, music, direction
>the world is a lot more "generic Japan"
>most episodes are inconsequential and quite dull
>>
>>282559321
all the gits anime ive seen were ugly, if they followed the mangas style like the ps1 game instead of uglifying it for a foreign audience it could have been better, but it really needs to be more interesting and less military wank
>>
>>282559476
>uglifying it for a foreign audience
Tourist from /v/ gibberish
>>
>>282559321
>only seen the movie
They also made SAC movies which you might have enjoyed better as a single shot if 26 eps with side stories is not your thing.
>complete tonal shift
Yeah, it's quite different than the OG movie.
>awful 3DCD on basically anything mechanical
Was not awful at the time relative to what was possible. You can just blanket dislike CGI from that era and that's fine. But it's not like it was explicitly bad for the period. They were pushing the edge in the context of anime at least, for better or worse. Obviously CGI does not hold up over time like hand drawn animation does, so it's going to seem worse now.
>major dresses like a street whore
She's always been a whore in the 'not literally a prostitute' sense from day 1 in the manga.
>art is a huge step down, understandable quality would take a dump compared to a movie but why are all the designs so shit now?
Subjective. I think a lot of people like the SAC designs. Especially compared to the series that came after. Whether the designs are better than the OG movie, again very subjective.
>everything is mediocre at best: sound, music, direction
At this point I'm realizing it's bait considering the music is absolutely iconic.
>the world is a lot more "generic Japan"
The Japanese government is an important part of the plot(s).
>most episodes are inconsequential and quite dull
There are episodes that are not part of the main story, but still give insight into the world and characters.
You might have liked the SAC movies better as standalone(...) one shots rather than 26 episode series if you didn't like the side stories.
>>
>>282559321
Not enough loli-con for you?
>>
>>282559736
>The Japanese government is an important part of the plot(s).
Not just the Japanese government but all sorts of commentary on both contemporary Japan and the West. Like, there's an episode that is an allusion to America's Operation Phoenix in Vietnam and the theory that the rise in serial killers in the postwar period is due to the leftovers of clandestine butcher squads. 2nd GIG centers the main plot on a refugee crisis on an island named for the historical island on which pre-modern Europeans were isolated.

SAC is one of the most overtly political series ever made, plus it's a lot cheaper to depict a normalish future Japan than to have movie quality cyberpunk junkscape everywhere
>>
>>282559321
I would assume a police procedural set in a different canon, with a desire to explore the post-cyberpunk aesthetics and conversations would be tonally different. Would it be a bad thing? A knock against it? Probably like similar product with a semi similar brand name.

SAC needed some condescending, but overall with the episodes with the DEA, Serano Genomics, Kuze, and Laughing Man--I appreciate SAC and its sequel series. Just not the fuckass one that came out recently.
>>
>>282559321
>major dresses like a street whore
dude, she was literally nude in the movie
>>
>>282560136
I think its aged very well.
>>
>>282562886
All of the anime and manga that takes a critical stance toward the postwar period is going to age well. Future historians are going to be forced to watch anime because of how incisive its criticisms have been and how influential it's become as popular media lol
>>
>>282559736
Soundtrack is one of the best things about the show too. Lithium Flower, Living in the Shell, Whats it for.
>>
>>282559321
Low effort bait

First season was good.

Second season was a step down, but still decent.

All of the stand alone movies and shit were fuckin bad 3-D abominations.

My favorite episode is the sniper episode, followed by the tank episode

What about you, anons?

It's probably a generic answer but I loved the chat room episode.

>constantly
Where? It's not 2012 anymore. Nobody talks about SAC even on /m/.
>>
>>282559321
>complete tonal shift
It IS its own work by a different creative team after all. I'm not here to defend SAC but come on now dude.
>>
>>282566847

I think ita between these ones and the rogue helicopters episode.
Also really liked the one with the exosuit that Major goes apeshit on, and the one in the antique shop, the episode where random citizens are trying to kill the politician, and the one where Batou and Major are trying to find 'Angels Feathers'.

Fully agreed
I was expecting Cyberpunk, but it was barely cyber and not punk at all

>>282559321
The movie is completely different from the original manga, so stop talking from your high horse secondary.

This, it's a pretty clear indication of how shit it actually is. Whenever you see a GitS webm posted, it's always from the movie, and that's not surprising because who the fuck would want to see webm related again? The only thing you really see posted from SAC is the major's whore outfit and ass shots. In fact I think most people haven't seen SAC for years and

The only reason anyone praises it is due to its release date, which coincided with the early teens of the first generation to have relatively easy internet access so it was their first exposure to not just cyberpunk (as shallow and shitty as they may be in SAC) but often anime as a whole. It's just nostalgia.
>>282569347
>yeah it's shit but it's closer to the source so that makes it good actually

SAC is flattered by the fact that everything GitS-related past the movie is straight up dogshit, so the merely okay is elevated by comparison. Objectively it's not really very good, but what's the competition?

That said sticking the Major in a leotard for the entire season was based.

Absolute retarded take on all levels.
The movie is in a completely different tone because it is by Mamoru Oshii and all his stuff is quite similar in that regard.
The cgi was very good for the time, take into consideration the fact that the show is almost 25 years old.
The art is a "step-down" because it was a full two season anime not an hour something movie also in the early 2000s the anime industry was transitioning to digital shading.Just FYI at the time it was one of the most expensive anime TV show ever made.
Now what the fuck are you on about the world being more generic japan? Are you retarded?
Yes there are some "standalone" eps they even let you know at the title card, you can skip but shouldn't because some ideas they present come up later.

So to sum up you are a zoomer retard that got into anime post lock down don't know shit about the industry or its history and probably watched only 2020s popular shounen for sakuga and breackneck easy to digest plot.
Gits Sac is known for its great characters, plot, take politics and philosophical questioning coupled with sci-fi dilemmas.
Even if the art was bottom of the barrel(which it is not) it would still be worth a watch.
The part about sound and music must be b8, it has two of the best opening in the history of everything TV and the most is great.

Tldr watch more anime zoomie adhd faggot the reason great anime like this is no longer popular to talk about is because retards like you don't have the attention span and general garbage taste.
>>
>>282571048
>IT WAS GOOD FOR ITS TIME!
Great or even good anime doesn't depend on being "good for its time".
>Y-YOU'RE A ZOOMER
I'm a fossilized boomer who saw the 1995 movie on fucking VHS in 1997, I guarantee you I'm older than you.

SAC is just bad, that's all there is to it. Notice how nobody says the 1995 movie was "good for its time", they only say that about SAC. Hell (old) Lupin never gets the "it was good for its time" treatment either, people still enjoy it to this day, and that's basically prehistoric.

Anon...

i liked sac
the movies were too slow for me
>>
>>282571212
>Notice how nobody says the 1995 movie was "good for its time"
Very few people are willing to take that fight because anime movies from the 90s are some of the highest quality works the industry has ever produced. It's why you only ever see people debate tv anime in the old versus new threads.
>>
>>282571212
When I say it was good for its time I meant the cgi and only that. The show is overall one of the best TV anime ever made objectivly.
The show is more relevant today than it was 20 years ago in regards to its stories and political commentarry.
Also being old does not make having a retarded opinion less damning if anything it makes it worse because one would expect such abyssmal takes from a 18-22 year old.
