What does /a/ think of this?
>>282574672I didn't know they made anime with Smurfs.
>>282574672No idea. It's been years since I watched it, butThe music is good and the character design is SEX, so that's something I guess.
Well, Discovery is the best dance album of the 21st century, and Leiji Masumoto's art is great as always, adds a nostalgic element that gels nicely with the overtly positive music, so yeah its pretty fucking good. Do I give a shit about the story? Not really, but if you think of it as one long music video, then it's probably the best music video ever made. As a movie, yeah its fine I guess, but theres no point trying to compare it to any feature length films. It's made to accompany the music and it does a good job at that so it succeeds in it's purpose.
>>282574672It was pretty good, but to be honest, I only watched it because I like Daft Punk
>>282574881>Do I give a shit about the story? Not reallySomething About Us is a masterpiece thoughbeithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOS9aOIXPEk
>>282574672it's neat
>>282574672It been much too long.
Last night I had a dream about you....
>>282574881>Well, Discovery is the best dance album of the 21st centuryWhat's your top 5?
>>282574672in desperate need of a remaster. afaik all the releases are telecine.
>>282576037Short Circuit is so good
>>282574765Pretty sure they are pantorans
>>282576037real question, why was he a nigger?I mean, all of them were aliens, same shade of blue
>>282575710not him but basically dance and electronic music as a genre was defined by that one single album, so even if you disagree, you have to appreciate its legacy.
>>282576575music producer man wanted a token black
>>282574672I hated it, the animation isn't even in sync with the music
>>282576605I think that's an opinion held by people who haven't listened to a lot of dance music, so I was curious what other stuff he liked. It's a great album but I think it was more popular than influential at least for dance music. It probably impacted pop production a lot but I don't listen to a lot of that so idk.
>>282574672Despite being only an hour long and having no dialog and very few sound effects, it has better storytelling than most things I've seen. I'm not a big fan of Daft Punk but I enjoyed it.>>282576575The entire movie is a metaphor on how mass appeal is destructive to the identity of an artist and their work and that record labels are a deal with the devil; it's not subtle about it. Him being a black guy to appeal to black people is part of that.>>282576037For once, Reddit comes in handy.https://old.reddit.com/r/DaftPunk/comments/1ho7nfk/interstella_5555_hq_1080p_2x_upscale/There was an upscale that used AI but this got a lot of flack because not only did it look like shit, but it also missed the entire goddamn point the movie was making about mass appeal being destructive to the product.
>>282577025i appreciate your kindness, but when i say remaster i mean from the actual master tape (if it exists). upscaling cannot improve quality no matter what method you use.
>>282577406Agreed, but at this point whenever the master of anything survives or not is a total crapshoot.
>>282575710>>282576731Alright, you got me. Let me change what I said. It's the best album (generally) of the 21st century that would be categorised as dance music, not he most definitive dance album. I really couldn't tell you anything about dance as a genre, what its exact parameters are or what defines it. When it comes to electronic music I only ever listen to drum & bass, jungle, and then ambient and industrial stuff (shit you can't dance to).
>>282577934you're good i was half being a dick anyway.>industrial stuff (shit you can't dance to).good taste though i love oldish edgy industrialhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPw56PfmbVc
>>282577934Actually nevermind, I'd put Untrue ahead of it. It's the second best. I stand by everything else I said before though.

>>282574672I feel like Discovery is Daft punks only good album. I hope we can at least agree the tron album was terrible
>>282579287Alive is great, even if it's just remixes
>>282574672One more time
>>282574672I watch it every so often on Saturday night on bootleg toonami. It's great. >>282579287The tron album has some great stuff. It's just nowhere near discovery, which is an unrealistic bar.
>>282576037Wasn't there a shitty ai upscale release recently?
>>282574672Seen the music videos, never seen the movie.
>>282574672Very nostalgic but I try to not watch it more than twice a decade because newer viewing erode the emotions I felt watching most of it on TV as a kid wondering about what the parts I did not see.
>>282574672toonami midnight run was so goodthis and gorillaz and kenna - hellbent so fucking go
Masterpiece
>>282580662If you've seen the videos, you've pretty much seen the movie.
