We need more kinder and positive protagonists in shonen. Edgy shit has gotten old.
>>
>>282580061
I agree, but not with the one on picrel. He's boring as fuck.
>>
>>282580114
He's a good flat static character that influences the world around him.
>>
>>282580061
You're acting as if anime fans are kind people to begin with. They aren't.
>>
>>282580061
Absolutely
>>
>>282580061
>we need more beta male MCs
No, and fuck off
>>
>>282580061
Actually we need more normal protagonists instead of edgy OC do not steal or softboy who cries every two episodes

This. The people want Zenitsu
>>
Why doesnt he just become a benevolent demon? Then he would be immortal and kill all the other demons
>>
>>282580061
There’s a reason Tangerine is less popular than Zentisu, Giyu, and Muichiro.

You belong in an asylum if you think that's at all related

What universe do you live in where good nature protagonists haven't been the norm within the bast 15 years? Mainstream examples of edgy protagonists are actually what's lacking.
>>
>>282580425
Weakling simp MCs need to die off as a trope, right along with your shit taste
>>
>>282580660
JJK has an edgy protagonist
>>
>>282580660
I actually can't think of any mainstream examples other than jin woo
>>
>>282580061
We need a balance of both
>>
>>282582447
There's less edgy characters now than ever.
>>
>>282580760
Again, you're the one who got that from "kind and positive"
>>
>>282582992
A balance of traits in one MC
>>
>>282580061
We need interesting protagonists.
Vash is an example of someone who you can call kind and positive, yet still having an interesting background and way of life.
Tanjiro is boring and most of his actions are reactive to the events happening around him. I am not surprised that he was written by a woman.
>>
We need protagonists like BPS
>>
>>282581142
Right? I honestly think this thread is just an attempt to hype up Tanjiro to seem more of a special character than he actually is >>282580344
Not even most popular in his own series.
>>
>>282584541
Since when is a MC the most popular in their own series aside from Luffy?
>>
>>282580904
Yes and no.
In a way he was supposed to be like a subversion.
Nice gentle character that gets broken by circumstances.
...excerpt he truly never stopped being a nice person to his allies and sadly Gege is a hack that couldn't give some cool protagonism to his literal main character
>>
>>282580660
I think Tanjiro is consistent as far as kindness and positivity go. She wrote him in a way that's honest. There's a good balance between him and >>282580344 the other guys.

On the other hand you have many dishonestly kind protagonists. Protagonists who appear kind as a way of deflecting blame. They're kind, so therefore everyone worships them as a god. They're kind, so therefore everyone the unkind writer hates meets an exaggeratedly cruel end.
>>
>>282584659
Some examples
>FMA
Edward Elric
>Dragon Ball
Goku
>Jojo
Jotaro
>Sailor Moon
Usagi is most recognizable, so maybe she counts?
>>
>>282584975
Then it really becomes an issue of good writing then, right? Because there's nothing wrong with edgy protagonists either, but they are often written incorrectly just like kind ones are.
>>
>>282584933
>In a way he was supposed to be like a subversion.
For the love of God, just stop with the muh subversion meme. Nothing in JJK is subversive. Yuuji character is not much different from Deku or Gon (actually those two are better written).
>>282584975
>She wrote him in a way that's honest.
>honest
Tanjiro is generic. He has one trait and nothing else. Is that a bad thing? Not exactly, but please let's be less pretentious and use the right words.

What do you consider to be an edgy shonen protagonist?

Izuku is a very underrated MC. He manages to be many things at the same time: crybaby, tough, kind, edgy, insecure, confident, cute, ugly, dumb, smart, right, wrong.

>For the love of God, just stop with the muh subversion meme
As I said it was SUPPOSED to be.
At least that's the read one would do after considering his context
>Dead parents in unknown circumstances
>Grandfather dies when he is still a highschooler
>Ends up cursed and basically condemned to his eventual execution
>One of the first people be empathizes gets killed by one of the main villains
>Menthor gets killed in front of him by the same dude than before
>Evil dude also "kills" his best (female) friend
>Other menthor gets sealed leaving his circle of trusted people to only one useless dude (potential man)
>Eventually, this only dude gets possessed and given up for dead
>In question of minutes he loses his only living brother and also his recently unsealed menthor
And there it goes, shit after shit.
>>
>>282585440
Everything but a good protagonist. Ochako should have been the MC
>>
>>282585694
Have you actually read the last 5 chapters of JJK or are you just pretending to be retarded. Gege spells out Yuji's entire character arc including the very obvious buddhist themes of suffering, instrumentality and acceptance in 265 and you people are still too stupid to get it. What's going folx
>>
>>282585440
I've never really hated him as much as everyone else does

Bros I was randomly browsing stuff on my TV last night and came across an old beloved movie. And after finishing it I thought to myself, "Is this the perfect archetypal shonen?" My answer is yes. The movie is Ghostbusters 2 btw.
>Entire main team are has beens that basically became NEET incels
>They get a hint of purpose once strange happenings happen
>Basically start to uncover a plot of some ancient evil trying to take over the world
>Punished harshly by the ignorant masses for being incels
>The whole planet starts to go to shit, REDEEMED
>Turns out the entire city is about to be killed by the manifestation of negative thoughts
>Fight the evil by creating a symbol of hope and inspiring the good in people
>The power of friendship and positivity literally defeats the ancient evil
>"bad guy" gets slimed and becomes a good guy, ancient evil gets banished to hell dimension, never to be seen again
>New York lives happily ever after, twin towers and statue of liberty proudly featured in final montage
>Also has a cute mascot (picrel)
>>
>>282580061
I agree. More like Izuku and Tanjiro please
