>>282593606first for savage rape of anne
>be Roy>be tall, handsome, suave, rich, at least three leagues above your girlfriend>send her flowers and poetry every day>ask her to marry you>she turns you downWhat the FUCK was her problem
>>282593606>NNNOOOO I'M LOSING MY ORBITER
was this a girlboss anime or was it good? i may check it out now that it's over
>>282593662"I WANT TO BE WITH SOMEONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BELONG IN MY LIFE!"--Anne Shirley
>>282593673>was this a girlboss animeNot really. It's a 19th century story written by a 19th century lady, and they adapted that more or less faithfully.
On the other hand, at least this finally happened.
Does the anime cover all the books?
>>282593739This series had romance? Or was it like a timeskip thing?
>>282593857The 2nd half has a lot but personally I didn't enjoy watching it
>>282593851Only the first three, Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of the Island. The series stopped before could reach Anne of Windy Poplars.
>>282593857This one book covered four years of college life, condensed into 9 episodes. It did include romance, but there were a lot of months-long timeskips necessary to get from one school year to the next.
>>282593926>>282593879ah I see, thanks.
>>282593739lucky bastard
>>282593606the most unrealistic thing about this is how Anne doesn't get more freckles as she gets older no matter how much time she spends in the sun
>>282593662Girls don’t like perfect boys.Btw, she wrote a romance novel where the perfect guy wins, but everyone said the flawed boy should’ve won instead. Now it’s happening to her irl.
>>282594099Someone else is lucky this episode too.
>>282594207>all the best girls got marriedi realise only now that anne married just to not be left out. truly a woman moment.
>>282593662>tall, handsome, suave, richStill.
>>282593739Dude looks so happy.
>>282593851No, only when she is called Anne Shirley
>>282594317She’s still called Anne Shirley throughout book four.
>>282593662She loves her childhood friend. Plus Roy is so boring.>>282594178Looks like not everyone missed the foreshadowing.
>the worst she can say is "no"
>>282594249You can see the moment where his complete confidence morphs first into confusion and then utter shockPoor guy didn't deserve this
Fuck Anne
>>282593662>send her flowers and poetry every dayThat's clinginess, that's the red flag, that's the ick.
>>282594993>guy showing affection? ickso anne wants a fuckboy that ghosts her?
>>282595239Yes, showing affection too much is cringe. It's like "pls response" in modern terms.Notice how Gilbert after the rejection instead of still trying to go after Anne, just does his own things.
>>282595352Would seven impregnations count as too much?
>>282593606Why does Anne have so many woman moments?
>>282594935>why not?>because I don't care about youholy fuck I hate women
This anime needed at least 4 times as many episodes.
>>282594935Roy gave her the ick
>>282596437That's the only flaw of this show, the pace is just way too fast
>>282594993>>282595352What about this? Is this not an ick?
>>282594456Everyone knew, besides hearing about the original, that this would happen the moment Gilbert appeared with Christine, and Anne´s reaction.
Is this over now? I don't want it to be.
>I grew a lot while you were not here>Oh, BTW, your real love is dying
It took Gilbert almost dying of typhoid fever to get Anne to acknowledge her feeling
>>282593739poor dude, marrying some random hussy
So was Phil just baiting her about Gilbert being engaged to christine soon?

Threesome with Diana and Anne
noiseshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z77H83dFRWQ
>>282596636Yes, that's an ick. But Anne also wants orbiters and simps she can reject and have power over so she got angry that Gilbert had a GF.
>>282596949>you need to nearly fucking die to have a chance with a girlIt's so fucking over.
>>282598272Nearly dying might have been enough 150 years ago, but standards have risen since then.
Any news about another season?
>>282594178>Girls don’t like perfect boysObvious lie. They want them and even more, that usually be thrill and excitement. That's why they sometimes leave them for an unknown reason.
LOVE WON!
>>282594207She looks super happy, I thought she was marrying an old man out of necessity? Also why didn't she invite Gilbert
>>282594236T H I SHISQuintessentially. Fear seeps in inevitably.
>>282598627>fumble for most of the series because of woman moments, bad romance fics, and college>see older woman miss out on love for being stupid--Anne doesn't learn from this because the woman still ends up with the guy...only after his loved ones are dead>be with another guy already, the literal man of his dreams>get the ick, still don't want Gilbert, making her liable to be an old maid who writes shitty romance>literally need an act of God (the author) to force Anne to be with Gilbert with a convenient fever otherwise she had to face the consequences of her own actionsNo wonder women likes this shit
>>282598734Callous but true.
>>282594236She was about to hit the wall and no one was about to hit that yee-yee ass haircut other than Gilbert "I'm engaged to another woman after getting rejected by Anne" Blythe
>>282598734Women LOVE wake up call illnesses in these settings.Daddy long legs works like this too.
>>282598666>Also why didn't she invite Gilbert>"You really can't blame her when you think of the tremendous Andrews connection who had to be invited. The house could hardly hold them all. I was only bidden by grace of being Jane's old chum -- at least on Jane's part. I think Mrs. Harmon's motive for inviting me was to let me see Jane's surpassing gorgeousness."
>>282598934Oh, that makes sense. Also, what a bitch her mother is. It was definitely to laugh at Anne
Look at my horseMy horse is amazing
>>282596932"The saddest part is that I'm not there to see it!"
>>282599229Give it a lick!
The embodiment of women who say they'll never marry when what they mean is that they'll never marry if their options are restricted to suitors within their social class.
>>282596932the imouto is so cute, I want to ask her hand in marriage
>>282599375That's more of a book six thing."Diana writes me that Dora has a beau. Just think of it—that child!”“Dora is seventeen,” said Gilbert. “Charlie Sloane and I were both mad about you when you were seventeen, Anne.”“Really, Gilbert, we must be getting on in years,” said Anne, with a half-rueful smile, “when children who were six when we thought ourselves grown up are old enough now to have beaux. Dora’s is Ralph Andrews—Jane’s brother. I remember him as a little, round, fat, white-headed fellow who was always at the foot of his class. But I understand he is quite a fine-looking young man now.”“Dora will probably marry young. She’s of the same type as Charlotta the Fourth—she’ll never miss her first chance for fear she might not get another.”“Well; if she marries Ralph I hope he will be a little more up-and-coming than his brother Billy,” mused Anne.
naming children after one of their parents is such a pathetic display of narcissism
>>282599674I agree is shitty but I wouldn't call it narcissistic. I was named same as my dad. Anyway, I expected better from Diana to name her son fucking Fred
Do you think Anne will live long enough to see the Summer of Love?
>>282596932>Madilda: They say he'll recover soon>No he won't, he is doomedWhat was his problem
>>282599857She moves on to name her next kid Anne Cordelia Wright.
>>282599911Davy likes to hang out around Mr. Harrison and adopts his blunt way of speaking.
>>282599335>winnipeglolhow was it really at the time though?
>>282599674That's incredibly normal; in what world is it narcissism?
>>282599674Lack of creativity more like
>>282600032In a world his parents didnt want to do it so he has less obvious relation to them, provably
>>282600026Well he owns a mansion and employs a cook, two maids, a coachman and a man-of-all-work at the estate. No matter what the town was like, inside those walls is probably pretty comfy.
>>282593606I dropped this anime cause I didn't like how rushed it was. Did it ever improve?
>>282600362It's not quite as rushed as the book 2 episodes were.
>>282599457Did Davy score? I feel like he acted too immature to get a girl.
Gonna miss it, Anne was my AOTY. Now moving to the next Western Novel Anime adaptation. The Little Mermaid
>>282600598Is this full blown romance, or there is more?
>>282600598no one wants to fuck a fish
Fucking finally. Also, Phill truly a bro
>>282600614It's a surreal fantasy by like 80% of the staff of the Revue Starlight movie.
>>282600598I watched the trailer earlier and it looks good, kind of like cel animation>>282600809Is it an original?
>>282600598>not black >redheadInsta dropped.
>>282600614Is about growth and romance too but like Anne i imagine Growth, OG Novel ends in death tho
>>282600882>Is it an original? It´s the literally "The little mermaid"
> Roy, the rich, handsome man from the 19th century was dumped by 3 girls alreadysure ugly duckling Becky, the author...No wonder Japan eat this story up since its indistinguishable from their wildly unrealistic shojo stories.
What goes on in anne's head when she rejects roy in the books?
>>282594178>Girls don’t like perfect boys.>Btw, she wrote a romance novel where the perfect guy wins, but everyone said the flawed boy should’ve won instead.I get that that's the intended message but Gilbert is also pretty perfect
>>282601313She finally grows up and realizes that besides the moment of "Prince charming", there is nothing that attracts her from him? She has been unconciously comparing her to christine, saying she isn´t as pretty as her, and roy with Gilbert, saying "Gilber will never..." "Gilbert this", "Gilbert that"... And in the end she realized she wanted for gilbert to be that prince charming, but that would be impossible, because they knew each other from 10 years already, and the "surprise attack" that he would do if he were to take the role of "prince charming" would be imposible.
>>282600882It's a loose adaptation of The Little Mermaid where after turning into bubbles she reincarnates in modern Japan.
>>282593606So, uh, what was Anne's master plan in the event that Gilbert had already moved on with another woman?
>>282599674>>282599857t. shitty Jrs.
>>282601940Go full Lavender.
>>282602221>that embraceSomebody's getting railed hard tonight.
>>282600598Oh I remember this. It was an independent animation of an artist some years ago and it seems that it is funded by some publisher to be a series project.

>>282596437this
I thought Roy was walking into the lake to drown after the rejection
>>282602424Real talk, this is probably the first time in his life someone told him no like that, especially a woman. This guy is either going to turn into a mega incel or he will hate women for the rest of his life.
>>282602550His sister told he was rejected 2 times already (Anne is the 3rd).
>>282596949Did he get that typhoid from drinking dirty water or from fucking prostitutes?
>>282602619you know, that's quite suspicious.
>>282600026Winnipeg has literally always been a rail and transportation hub connecting western & eastern Canada. Wikipedia says it was the 3rd biggest city by 1911.

series should have been triple the length
>>282602979Goodbye best girl
One last time, for old times sake...WOMEN...
I'm happy this series happened. It was a pleasure to tune in every Saturday for some Anne most of the year.
>>282593739In the end, the most outgoing girls, Ruby (RIP) and Phil, were the purest ones.
>>282603888No, Diana was the purest.
>>282603888Anne was outgoing too...
>>282602424>You've ruined my lifeAh, been there. Women, huh.
>>282603959No, Anne was a bitch. It's different.
Thanks everyone for being here. It was a pleasure talking about this show for all these months
Welp, there goes another perfect romance anime, now back to my loveless life.
>>282603812
>>282604169There is hope for you, anon. You just gotta go outside and meet people
>>282600716
Hey hey calm the fuck down. You are not alone
>>282593606I don't want it to be over. Anyone know how many books they didn't cover?
>>282604571It covered 3/6, or 3/8 if you count the ones that have her children as the main focus
Do any of Anne and Diana's children hook up? Would be nice if they became family
This has an ongoing manga adaptation, right?
>>282604833By this, I meant the Anne Shirley anime. The pic was just one of the old adaptation of future books that I posted just because.
>>282600809>80% of the staff of the Revue Starlight movieOh fuck. Picked up.
>>282604708Do you think they'll make another season?
>>282604853>>282604833There is an adaption running in B's Log Comic but it last had a chapter in June and it didn't get far to begin with.https://comic-walker.com/detail/KC_006202_S/episodes/KC_0062020000200011_E?episodeType=first
>>282604930Doubtful. This was already a huge project in covering 3 books and it's the peak of the series anyway.
for me? it was matthew
>>282605009I think delivering 6 kids is the peak.Imaging this and anime rushing the story, she will pop out 1 kid per episode.
>>282605265He was literally me.
out of the 3 anne anime Ive watched, this one was the one I liked the leastog anne > prequel > this one

>>282605501I never cared about the prequel book because it's literally fanfic but I might check the anime.
>>282605934>thoughtsHer actions are pure, that's what matters.
>>282605934Diana is unironically the purest girl. Ruby was too thirsty, Jane was too greedy, fatty was too bitchy and Anne was too dumb
Wait, we didn't see Anne's college friends. What happened to them
>>282601940Affair
Old school woman moment from Anne. Poor guy has been revolving his world around her only for her to send him careening off into space. He forgot his hat. It's hard to feel bad at all for Anne after she led him on like that for so long. Rotten to the core, just like Anne.Adorable Diana the mother. The big smile on his face lol, dude landed himself a wild girl.Davy can't help but open is fucking mouth.Fine time for her to be hallucinating, or the fire is fake too because that's how fucked her mind is.>Left the door openShe waited till the rain cleared but couldn't close the door?I can't recall if the old guy was ever explained as an angel, god, or just her mind doing weird shit again.Kind of a jarring zoom in when they are talking on the log. Wonder if that was a mistake. How many decades of a loving relationship they could have if Anne wasn't the trainwreck she is.Finally, Gill got his win. Very cute. How scandalous, holding hands.Forgot she told Matthew first. It wasn't a bad adaption. Didn't have quite the soul of the original but it was good overall.
>>282606581>Kind of a jarring zoom in when they are talking on the log. Wonder if that was a mistake.I also noticed that, weird cut.
>No flashforward of Anne and Gilbert's childrenOne job
Wasn't there a plot in the books about the Allan couple losing a baby?
>>282596636It shouldn't be, but it indeed does fall well into ick territory for most girls. Unless he's overly persistent in saying it, in which case yeah the guy needs to chill, but an every-now-and-again comment like this meant as reassurance or appreciation should not be seen as a bad thing. Unfortunately pretty much every woman is a sociopath and has to work against that to be a better person, so it is what it is.
>>282593606I had no familiarity with this franchise outside the fact that it had an WMT adaptation and that it was required elementary school reading for years and I usually don't indulge in these type of shows but I ended up enjoying it and reading up these threads about the history of the books and other adaptations was really fun as well. Its good not to indulge in hype shows all the time.

It's nine years since you went away, but Marilla and I can't seem to get over missing you. It's not so lonesome now since Davy got married...Millie is a real nice little thing...such pies!...though she's curious as a chipmunk about everything. But I've always said and always will say that there's nobody like you."
>>282601940She tells Jane's mom, “I am going to be an old maid. I really can’t find any one to suit me.”
>>282602619This latest rejection was unique among them.>Twice before. And he raved to me just the same both times. Not that the others actually refused him—they simply announced their engagements to some one else. Of course, when he met you he vowed to me that he had never really loved before—that the previous affairs had been merely boyish fancies.
Considering this is based on a century old story, I declare that>Women, Women never changes
>>282604708There are also an additional three books of short story compilations, Chronicles of Avonlea, Further Chronicles of Avonlea, and the posthumously-published The Blythes are Quoted, the last of which was completed right before L.M. Montgomery died but wasn't published until 2009.
>>282609585Yeah, it's hard not to feel bad for him. I don't feel too bad, considering it won't be difficult to find a woman at the end of the day for him, but Anne is still a time-wasting shitter, I don't care if it was unintentional. Gilbert is a good boy and a saint and she doesn't deserve him.
>>282606161>Priscilla later married a foreign missionary, whom Anne described was "as handsome and inscrutable as those daydreams [that she and Diana] once planned to marry" and the best dressed man Anne had ever met. After her marriage, Priscilla and her husband moved to Japan in the late 1880s. Due to her new residence, she wasn't able to attend Anne and Gilbert's wedding. At some point, she gave birth to a son who was old enough to enlist as a soldier in September 1914. >Stella moved to Vancouver, and so wasn't able to attend Anne's and Gilbert's wedding. She had one son, who enlisted in World War I in September 1914, along with Jack Wright, Priscilla's son, Jane's son, Billy's son and both Phil's sons.

>>282610227>keep orbiting the girlhe didn't
>>282601940I don't know that this is the case, but in the episode, when she thought Gilbert was going to die, she was basically considering a suicide. This is probably also caused by the fact the she was a novel otaku, and suicide for a tragic love is top tier for a girl like her.

>>282611178I bet they at least tried.
>>282611089>know who loves you and stick by themExcept Roy loved her plenty, so it's not that simple. Considering what's been posted here about her real life, I don't think the author knew what she wanted out of men and that pretty much bled into Anne, just in a more idealistic and neatly-tied-up way for the story. I doubt this was the intent of the author, but I'd say an important lesson to take away is that women have no goddamn idea what they want and it's important to acknowledge that and have girls begin to wrangle with that.

>>282612462I read through all eight (at the time) books around twenty years ago, but I generally only keep going back to rereading the first four because they're more fun. When I hear that the final publishment-delayed book was from when the author was in her *really* melancholic and depressed phase, it reminds me of when I finally heard about and bought the fifth Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book, read though it, got to the end, and was so disappointed I sold the book back to the bookstore after one read.

>>282614749It didn't fit her fanciful idea of what kind of love she wanted or deserved. She got these ideas from romance novels and such. Basically a disconnect between fantasy and reality. I’ve got fearfully thin since the babies came. I’m not half so good-looking; but I think Jo likes it. There’s not such a contrast between us, you see. And oh, it’s perfectly magnificent that you’re going to marry Gilbert. Roy Gardner wouldn’t have done at all, at all. I can see that now, though I was horribly disappointed at the time. You know, Anne, you did treat Roy very badly.”“He has recovered, I understand,” smiled Anne.“Oh, yes. He is married and his wife is a sweet little thing and they’re perfectly happy. Oh, and for the fans of Charlotta the Fourth: Charlotta the Fourth had discarded the blue bows but her freckles were not noticeably less.“I never did think I’d come down to marrying a Yankee, Miss Shirley, ma’am,” she said. “But you never know what’s before you, and it isn’t his fault. He was born that way.”“You’re a Yankee yourself, Charlotta, since you’ve married one.”“Miss Shirley, ma’am, I’m NOT! And I wouldn’t be if I was to marry a dozen Yankees! Tom’s kind of nice. And besides, I thought I’d better not be too hard to please, for I mightn’t get another chance. Tom don’t drink and he don’t growl because he has to work between meals, and when all’s said and done I’m satisfied, Miss Shirley, ma’am.”“Does he call you Leonora?” asked Anne.“Goodness, no, Miss Shirley, ma’am. I wouldn’t know who he meant if he did. Of course, when we got married he had to say, 'I take thee, Leonora,’ and I declare to you, Miss Shirley, ma’am, I’ve had the most dreadful feeling ever since that it wasn’t me he was talking to and I haven’t been rightly married at all. And so you’re going to be married yourself, Miss Shirley, ma’am? I always thought I’d like to marry a doctor. It would be so handy when the children had measles and croup. Tom is only a bricklayer, but he’s real good-tempered. When I said to him, says I, 'Tom, can I go to Miss Shirley’s wedding? I mean to go anyhow, but I’d like to have your consent,’ he just says, 'Suit yourself, Charlotta, and you’ll suit me.’ That’s a real pleasant kind of husband to have, Miss Shirley, ma’am.”

I'm not sure if that was the intent of the author but if you told me this was some postmodern self-aware satire written in the 21st century in the style of something 100 years ago by a literary genius, all for the sake of criticizing modern women, I would believe you. It's almost too on the nose.
How does this version compare to the old one? Because I really liked the old one. Also, are the books worth reading?
>Lucy lost her Gilbert AND DianaPeak suffering
>>282644290Every story about humans/human-like being has a moral. It's inescapable and arguably the reason why humans started telling stories in the first place. Character studies, too, will have an implied moral at minimum. If the character achieved his goals, the moral will be straightforward: "Have the same virtues as the character to achieve your goal(s)". The character achieved his goals not through virtues but blind luck or utter ruthlessness? Well, there's a moral in that too. (Probably a nihilistic one.) If the character didn't achieve his goals, the moral will be "avoid the mistakes of this character." The character didn't make any mistakes and still failed? Again, there's a moral in that too. (Probably a fatalistic one.) Every author has views about how this world works and how human beings should act when faced with the world, and these views will find their expression in the author's writings. That's perfectly normal. And it's normal for anon to question what kind of moral a story might try to teach his niece.

>>282657702Oh I meant this anime. But I'll probably just look up stats in a year or two and see if the younger generation wound more interested after this adaptation. Maybe Vinland Saga helped too with that last arc in the manga
Said it before, but this series ended up quite the melancholic experience. The lifes and times of people like Anne happened barely yesteryear; how hopeful they all once looked towards the future. And now they're all dead and their children would be dead too, all gone by in a flash, and the future ain't all it was cracked up to be either. In a way, the somewhat rushed nature of adaptation emphasized this very point, with Anne being an innocent child one moment, then suddenly a woman grown before you know it, a bittersweet reminder how fleeting the human existence is.
